Wear pink on Friday to show your support for teachers who were handed pink slips and for fixing the California education funding problem, once and for all. This type of crisis will continue to happen every few years unless we address policy.

I am a teacher receiving a pink slip and my message to my students is simple:
It saddens me greatly. But to look at the positive, thank goodness I have a college education because of it I have a very good chance of finding work elsewhere. Protect yourself by earning an education. Hopefully, this "lay-off" doesn't affect your chances at a quality education at our public schools.

Why is it when a government agency feels they need "budget cuts," the first thing they take their scissors to is the "school budget!" Why not the "governor's salary," or other politicians? It is my opinion that the taxpayers (voters) of this state need to take a stand against this type of government. The very generation that will be running this state is the generation Governor "Terminator" is now depriving of a decent education. We all know he doesn't really "need" his salary (even though he takes it anyway!) so, why can't he throw it back into the "pot" for the schools. Also, I believe it is our responsibility to take a stand for the future of the upcoming generations of graduates for they are the future of this state!

I don't like to send bad news however you need to be aware of this. My teacher at Cuyamaca said that several teachers got pink slips this week. The cut off year for seniority was for teachers that had been there after 2001. Meaning if you were there prior to 2001 you would be OK and would not be getting pink slip. I don't know if any of your friends are loosing their jobs.

My wife lost her job in Poway on Friday. She's truly one of the very best teachers in the district! We're shocked and saddened. Come on, Governor! When I voted for you I had no idea you would stoop so low. Make our schools a priority!
