I grew up in the 80's and attended Pound High. What happened to all the street corner bunch. I especially have memories of a beautiful bruinette who may have been native american i can't remember her name.

The 80's were my hey-day too. We used to have to cruise to Norton, and everyone hung out in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot and the old Maloneys. You could always hook up a party to go to from there. If you had an 8 pack of pony Buds, and $10 to buy gas, you could have a great time jammin' out to your 8 tracks tapes of like Molly Hatchett, Journey,.38 Special, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, etc.! Man, we ain't getting no younger, I'm so sorry to say!

Although MTV was a product of the '80s, and was great in the first year or two they chose their first "video" prophetically.
"Video Killed the Radio Star"
Music was spiritual in importance in the '60's and to the eighties.
I remember hearing John Lennon's voice when we got a box of 45's from WNVA. There was a copy of "Help!" and at the age of 5 it gave me chill bumps. I couldn't imagine having that much emotion about anything...
I'm sure those growing up now would say nothing has changed. They are wrong. There is spirit in modern music, too, it is dark, nihilistic and hopeless. Kurt Cobain sealed the pact with a shotgun..or so they say.
CD sales are down 20% and the "industry" blames computers. How about the lame, pre-fabricated swill that passes for "Rock"? Blame that! If Country is your thing it is worse! You cannot pre-package emotion.
If you have a pretty face and a nice ass (very important) and can ACT and MOVE properly WE will make YOU a star. You'll even get to actually sing a little at live performances (no, honey, we have people who come in and do the studio work. Don't you worry about THAT part.
It has killed popular culture so we make our own!

He got sick in early childhood. His Mom was a nice lady, loved him so much. I'm glad he doesn't have to get by on people's kindness anymore because-there isn't any! But we COULD change that with a simple choice.

The game room at the "Jerky", and the pool hall/ gameroom at the old Poverty House down in the Pound, were awesome! Partyin' at Cane-patch and the Bee-bottom! Not to mention the overlook was a great hang-out for straight folk, back in the day :)

Lord! I had forgotten about poor old Dale Hughes following Felicia around and sitting down there outside her house crying! Me and my friend used to go to the Clintwood movie theather every Sun. and he would follow us around. If we moved, he would too. He would sit and cry, oh my Felicia, I love you! You have brought back some memories there!

You have brought back some memories there! Here's another... K.P. with his flashlight at the Clintwood theater. If Dale got...you know or someone talked too much, here he came. Remember the NEHI clock beside the screen? "...here's a radio memory, here's the scene you're in the backseat laying down the windows wrap around to the sound of the travel and the engine...all you hear is time stand still in travel- you feel such peace and absolute stillness still....it doesn't end but slowly drifts, into sleep. for you are here with me, you have been here and you are everything-" michael stipe
