over the holidays i was back visiting friends in washington county and on sunday evening we heard that a deputy had shot and killed a young man who was supposedly armed with a butcher knife. the comments i heard from many locals sunday evening and monday morning seems to question the abililty of the local sheriffs department to deal responsibly
when they are armed not only with a gun but also mace. most comments i heard were people feeling this was a case of excessive force. my prayers go out to this young mans family.

It's not only washington county, it's also Ste. Genevieve and troy too! It's realy everywhere but also here.

I worry about the cops on pysch drugs with guns and very poor judgement. They have the perception if they have a badge and gun all they have to say is they feared for their own personal safety and don't fear any action taken against them for ANYTHING they do like kill unarmed citizens.

he was armed with a butcher knife and came after a deputy. don't make comments if you don't know. glad your heart goes out to the family but did you know that the family has been harassing deputies in washington county now. it was ruled justified so who cares now. the family should get over it and should have gotten john help a long time ago and not asking law enforcement to do it for them. i bet they called all the time about john because they couldn't do anything for him. that is usually how these families are.

The cop that shot the man in Washington County is now working in Ste. Genevieve City. I think that someone should let the people of Ste. Gen know that they have another loose cannon.

It is the concern of everyone in Washington county. When was the last time that a shooting of this manner was ruled not justified? Come on!

You try fighting a suspect with a knife with mace or better yet let him charge at you and see if mace stops him before the knife is 6 inches into you chest then mabe if you dont die right away you can then get out your gun before he stabs you over and over again....i bet you would do the same thing deputy luis did if you were in the same situation.

I personally know duputy Louis and I know that he is not the nicest of people, he has a very explosive temper. I do think that he had the right to shoot the man if he came after with a knife. The rule of thumb is that if someone with a knife is within 25ft of you and coming after you in an aggressive manor, you have the right to shoot them. Police officers are also trained to shoot to kill, shoot center mass. The only time you draw your weapon(gun) is if you feel that it is a life or death situation. My problem with the whole thing is first of all I HEARD that this man was shot in the back. I am not sure if that is true or not so I wont play it off as fact, but if he was he was probably running away....not justified. The second thing is that deputy Louis(who now works for Ste. Genevieve City) has a very bad temper. I am wondering if he tried to talk the guy down or if he just went after him aggressivly. That could have been the difference in an arrest and a funeral. It is not always about the outcome, rather the means that got us there.

I personally know debuty Louis and I know that he has an explosive temper. I also heard that the man that he shot, was shot in the back. I don't know if that is true or not so I am not stating that as fact. It is however a fact that an officer is justified in shooting someone from 25ft or less when that person is moving forward in an aggressive manor. It is also a fact that police officers are trained to shoot to kill. They are also taught not to unholster their weapon unless they intend to use it. Now my point. I don't know if deputy Louis was justified or not but I do know that he is not a good people person. I am just wondering if he caused the situation to escalate to the point of the shooting. He needs anger management training, for himself and everyone else that he is "protecting and serving".

That is because of that good ole boy bull! You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. It is all in the report. That is what they tell you....it doesn't matter what really happened it matters what you write in your report. If you have another cop or two to back you, who are they going to believe? Three cops or an "alleged" criminal? There are some good cops out there, but there are a lot more dirty ones. And yes, I have seen his explosive temper and I have read his reports....not the same.

Dont go by "reports". Talk to people that he used to work with they will tell you what he's really like. He almost lost his job because his temper. If it hadn't been for his buddies covering his butt (in the report)he probably wouldn't be in law enforcement today. Shame on them! It will happen again, he may not kill someone but his temper will get the better of him. Just you wait and see. He is a time bomb.

Washington County has a lot of crap going on and the citizens or atleast some of them are dirt bags. And some police shootings are ruled unjustified..duh, the deputy in lincoln county...so why do you care anyway? A job was done....What you citizens don't understand is that law enforcement is a JOB only. They make life and death decisions everyday..If you don't like it and think that you could do a better job, by all means go to the academy and become a law enforcement officer...But don't judge until you have worked the job.

I heard through the grapevine that he lost his job in Ste Genevieve because of his pysco estranged wife not because of his temper.

Duh! That on was ruled unjustified because the officer shot two unarmed men in the back of the head, while they sat in a truck looking the other way! I don't think a couple of other officers helping write that report could even cover that one up. But anyway.....whatever you say Louis or close personal friend of Louis.

He quit his job in Ste Genevieve.....I believe it was a quit or get fired situation, because of his temper. His ex was not psycho.....just couldn't put up with his mood swings and his cheating with the dispatch girls.

wrong, it wasn't. i am real sure that he quit because of his estranged wife who attempted to get him fired several times. i heard she walked out because she didn't know how to follow directions. i heard his estranged wife is on anti depressants...so who has the mood swings again? psyco.
