Officials address Lyme disease concerns

Del. Susan Lee of Bethesda organized a community meeting about Lyme disease, held at the Potomac Community Center on Thursday.

They carry and distribute the ticks that spread Lyme disease. They eat up neighborhood gardens and soil the lawns, They cause accidents on the local roads, often seriously harmful, their corpses left behind. Yet we continue to protect them.

Why not fence them in under the power lines, feed them salt licks laced with contraceptives, invite bow hunters to harvest fresh venison for the hungry?

The deer population must be decimated.

I must say that I resent the derogatory stereotyping represented in this article and the comment by Auntie Deer. We must fight for an end to discrimination against Deer Americans.

I visited the great state of Maryland in August of 2008. I saw not one sign in any of the quaint little shops warning the tourists of the tick danger there. Unfortunate for me! I was sick when I got on the plane to get home thought I had a bladder infection. It took the doctors here and my leg work and 4 months to figure out why I was so sick. I had become a victim of a tick. Here it is a year later and I am still fighting for my life back.

When I contacted the Maryland Public Health Department as to why there was no signs they informed me that the children are educated in school about tick dangers. Lovely too bad my kids didnt go to school there - I would have known. This country needs to be informed about this threat. It certainly seems more likely to become a victim of a tick than a terrorist.
