School officials said on Thursday that an eighth-grader lied when she told them a pack of angry classmates assaulted her over an anti-illegal immigration poster she brought to campus.

I don't think they need to prosecute her but they do need to let her know defamation of charater is a good way to go to jail and/or pay a fine. However, the other kids shouldn't have taken her poster and they should have been suspended and made to re-do the poster if it was destroyed.

I wonder if she even KNOWS that she is racist?

This girl caused physical harm to herself in order to get revenge against the "Latinos"...she needs help!

The boys who took the poster are/were serving an in school suspension.

This girl does need to be prosecuted. With all of the tension already going on, this incedent may well add fuel to the fire. She needs to be taught a lesson on honesty. So be it if it has to be learned the hard way for her..
But the school also needs to be held accountable. While it is important for kids to learn about politics, there should be parameters set up as to what is acceptable age wise for these children. Her poster was unacceptable for a middle school project to begin with. While it is an important issue, it doesnt belong in schools. The chldren that took it should be punished as well but, I dont suspension is the answer.. Maybe sensitivity classes should be provided to school kids....

I think she needs to be taught a lesson. Her behavior can lead to other serious crimes such as what happen at Duke University where some members we accused of raping a girl. Later to find out it was a fabricated story.

It sounds to me like a ploy to get attention. I knew a girl once that would pinch bruises on her face (eyes mainly) so she could get attention. It is very sad; seems like they are lonely on the inside. She needs help. On the other hand, she does need to know what she did was wrong - she owes the other kids an apology and I think she needs to some sort of community service.

My child would get a good old fashion butt whooping! She is old enough to know right from wrong. I'm glad she was found out before she started an intense racial controversy, which could have led to some really bad things for everyone in that school and that city.

Trying to get attention....YES!
Racist....NO!

This girl was only trying to take the same stand against illegal immigrants that many are wanting or trying to take now. For that, I applaud her for understand the negative impact illegal immigrants place on society and the economy.

It was wrong of her to accuse those kids of attacking her. Looking the statement she was trying to make, an attack by a group of hispanic classmates would have made the story seem like she was doing the right thing and was a victim. No one would have a problem with the girl.

When I heard this story on NBC5 the other night it struck a nerve. I made an announcment at church on Wed. Apr. 9th. that I was planning to go to Athens to show support for the girl and to offer any help we could to her and her cause. Now I can save my gas and try to figure out how to explain my concern for a liar.

Funny how when a white person does this its racism.Any other minority(now the majority)does this kind of thing or hate speech, its acceptable and tolerated to the point its the norm. She shouldnt have lied but we are at a point that it was possible for them to have done it and suspension was the punishement? That would have been a hate crime right? No,because she was white. No white can have a hate crime done to them.Hate crime laws need to be eleminated.Equality or nothing.

Since the story broke, I told my wife she was not telling the truth. Something about how she conducted herself in the interview with the Fox 4 news. If you were almost raped by a group of Hispanics you would not be in the kind of mood she was in. What an idiot along with her parents. From the begining the parents wanted to get the FBI involved.OOPS! I think in these situations first get the facts of the case then talk to the media. I also think her poster was unacceptable and she needs some sort of suspension and community service.(Maybe to go stand in the corner with all the illegals in Lewisville for a month)Ha! Ha! Ha!

This girl does need to be prosecuted to the fullest... The manpower, time and cost should be enough to prosecute. If nothing else but to do community service or pay a huge fine.

If there is no prosecution she needs to give a public apology to both the students and the public. After all it didnt take much for her to go on TV and lie about these students beating her up. It should be just as easy for her to go on TV and apologize.

When I first heard the story, my heart was broken for her. Now I'm angry with her for telling such a lie.

It's really sad that children these days look for such dramatic ways to get attention. Watching the kids of today is actually somewhat of a heart wrentching experience to see how non involved the parents are and to see the effect that their influence has on their children. It's happening all too often for kids to get attention in ways such as this, and makes you wonder just where everything started slipping away.

Based on your comments, I'm going to guess your of the white decent which might explain your ignorance. Color or ethnicity has nothing to do with this matter MR. GERALDINE FARRARO. Kind of suck with the shoe is on the other foot. Maybe it's time the tables are turned so you can finally understand.

In regards to Mr. Yates comment, the other kids were not exactly innocent as the article did say they took the poster, they just did not physically harm the girl.
All the students, in question deserve some type of punishment and yes the girl should receive some type of community service for filing a false report.
