working class supporting welfare class

tired of your hard earned money going to some welfare case? it is time for the working class to stand up and tell the welfare class to earn their own keep. tired of all their excuses? tell us about it.

what this country needs to do is get rid of the welfare programs completely. my attitude is if you want to survive in this world then earn the money yourself. i say kick them out of free housing, cut off the free food supply. kick them to the street. then maybe they might consider getting a job and start taking care of themselves instead of sponging off of the working class.

Don't forget the illegals that come here and suck up all they can get. I work with that group on a regular basis; free health care AND free interpretration service.

What a freakin' scam.....one family I deal with has SEVEN kids and each of them has a medicaid card.

I'm with Joe.....lets end welfare and see what happens (I don't mean unemployment, which is earned, or payments to people that are truly disabled)

How racist can you be, Concerned?!? The Mexicans in Portsmouth actually work for a living! It's the long-time residents of Ohio that have grown up on welfare who continue the family tradition of abusing it. When I go back to Portsmouth to visit family, the new Mexican population is always polite, friendly and willing to help, which is more than I can say for many of the others I know in town.

Also, the welfare system in Ohio is much better than that of other states in the US. Take NC for example, to those who are on welfare, it's considered one of the best welfare systems in the US. You can stay on welfare forever. I believe that in Ohio there's a 5 year limit unless you're on disability.

Welfare is a federal program governed by federal law and was overhauled during the Clinton administration. There is a limit in all states. I also live in NC and have for years. There is no difference in lazy people here or in Ohio or where ever. They find a way to take advantage and if/when they can't get welfare they fake a disability and get SSI.

Also, why is it racist to not want to support ILLEGAL immigrants?? It might be considered cold hearted, but it is not racist. I can assure you that even though the man/head of household may be gainfully employed, mommy and babies are getting WIC, foodstamps, Medicaid, free education, etc.

Moreover, the "Mexicans" as you called them, work for very low wages and oftentimes in unsafe conditions; they also will tolerate things such as long shifts without breaks, no sick pay, etc. They are frequently taken advantage of b/c of their illegal status. The people that hire them are the real criminals, imo and should be the target if law enforcement. If there are no jobs (and no handouts) the illegals will go home.

justme, I wasn't referring to your remarks... only that of 'Concerned'. If a person is here illegally than I agree they shouldn't be. But, to single out on entire race is absolutely ridiculous and racist! It's wrong no matter how you look at it.

As far as the welfare system... I was told that recipients receive welfare for life in NC. I must have been misinformed. I do know that years ago in Ohio it was limited to 5 years and that receipient had to work at least part-time if they were able. You'll always have people who will push limits and take, take, take. I blame it all on the government and the police force because they are the true enablers. They are not doing their jobs for which taxpayers are paying them!

Most of the welfare abuse that I've witnessed firsthand takes place among the white and black population. I've meet many people, I'm ashamed to have ever been associated with, who received welfare and medicade benefits and sold drugs paid for by medicade from the comfort of their government subsidized housing. This is what the police and concerned citizens should be cracking down on. It would save taxpayer money and rid the streets of the multitude of drugs that pump through the veins of Portmsouth!

oh, there are limits here in NC. Also, we have that Work First program, but remember these people still will qualify for foodstamps, medicaid, WIC, subsidized housing, etc. I think all the Clinton reform really accomplished was moving people to SSI!!

I don't mean to sound like a hater, b/c I really sincerely am not, but I get tired day in and day out watching lazy doless people get handed so much while the working/middle class does without. For example, the agency I work with will accept NC Medicaid but will not acccept most private insurance b/c they will not pay for our service (home health) to the extent that medicaid will.

what kind of crap is that?? Of course the wealthy will just private pay, but the middle class can't cough up the $150 a visit or whatever the rate is now.....its all a scam anyway....good grief, I am good, but I am not worth $150 for 30 minutes lol

Tam, they come b/c they have jobs......not good jobs, mind you. Not safe jobs.....just jobs. My area of the country is overrun with them and they do seem to be worker bees, but they are living and working in deplorable conditions and making corporate fat cats fatter and draining the tax coffers with foodstamps, WIC, medicaid, etc.....I still say if you punish the employers (taylor lumber and the porkrind factory for 2 local examples) then you will cease to have an illegal immigrant problem

i dont know about taylor lumber, but i do know that the pork rind owners, in chicago, got rid of a lot of area workers and brought mexicans in from tx, i have been to their facility in chicago..........its all mexicans there, im not being a hater at all, but y get rid of local employees and import others? and they market pork rinds under a lot of different names, so its likely no matter what kind u buy, they made them..........I officially call for a PORK RIND BOYCOTT !!!! lol

As for people on welfare, I know one woman who works out her check at the hospital, go to work there willingly, but wouldnt drem of actually taking a paying job there, but has plans to work somewhere before the end of the yar so she can get the child credit and earned income money on her tax return, the sad part is, people on welfare could be going to school free,have free child care while doing it, and even get their car repaired so they can go.....unlike my kid who worked full time to pay for school........do I sound bitter??? uhhhh YEAH

i realize the influx of mexicans is great, i also realize the gov. isn't going to do anything about illegles, i just don't think i should press 1 for english, tell them to learn the language, our ansectors did. are they then better then the people who came in thru ellis island

My bf works at the pork rind place. I told him what was being said here, so I said "you know that isn't right, hiring illegals when local ppl could work there"....but he said" nooo......ppl here won't work, or are too drugged out, half of them that would work can't pass a drug test"...sad, but true. Sometimes they come in to work, but they are nodding during training from being so high on pills.

Granted, there are some (a lot) of people on welfare who could very well get off their lazy bums and get a job. However, not everyone that gets help through welfare is trying to be lazy and sponge off the working class. Some people actually do work, just need the extra help.

Ohio needs to institute the same policies that West Virginia uses. In West Virginia, people who are receiving assistance are drug tested. If they fail the drug test, they are kicked off of welfare. Why doesn't Ohio do the same? If my taxes are going to help someone else, so be it. But if my money is going to some fat crackhead whose only use for his/her children is a welfare check, drug test them, kick them off welfare, and send them to France or Ethiopia where they belong.
