There are some in Portsmouth. I made a contribution to the Salvation Army Pantry around late summer. They seem to be a great organization. I was shocked to hear the number of people they help in a given week. They help over 100 families a week, if anyone wants to donate, I am sure they would greatly appreciate it. For the person who asked, it is close to Kroger.

God's Pantry is in the basement of Second Presbyterian Church, across from PHS on Waller. It is opened on Wednesdays from 10AM-2PM. It is a choice pantry - you choose what you want from shelves. Bring SSN for all members of the family and proof of residence in Scioto County. They also have emergency food bags.

There is also one in McDermott at the little white church on the hill. Open on Thursday morning to around 2pm. They usually have bread, donuts and stuff from Kroger's and Tim Horton's along with pantry items like soup, noodles, cereal, and frozen meat like sausage. You would be surprised how many people come and are eligible for help. You can come one time per month and must register each time.

these low life people go from food pantry to food pantry loading their trunks and they also get a food card for the family for a month when they stock up each week they sell their food card or should I say they go in the store with someone let them pick what they want and out side they get cash and they walk away with a hundred dollars worth of food for 50 cash, Now you see how the system works around here ?

You know what, I do have a job. So does my husband. We don't get benefits from ODJFS. Sometimes, there are unexpected expenses (car repairs, doctor's visits, prescriptions, home repairs) and yes I have used the pantries in the past because I had to deplete what money I had in savings and grocery monies as well. So think twice before you judge. Yes, there are people who abuse the system by selling their food card. Not every person who uses the food pantry is one of them. I hope that you never have to go to one as it is an awful realization that unless you ask for charity, your children will go hungry until your next paycheck comes in.

If you are someone in need of food don't be ashamed to go to one of the food banks. I know my church has one in Wheelersburg and we are so glad taht we can help someone in need. Don't go hungry because of pride. And yes, there are some abusers of the system but that is not for us to judge.
