The Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Scioto DD) has a renewal levy on the Nov 8th ballot. A yes vote will NOT raise your taxes, but it will ensure citizens with significant disabilities will continue to have the serves they need.

Scioto DD serves over 470 people with significant disabilities all throughout Scioto County. Scioto DD serves someone from every school district in the county! Scioto DD provides services for a lifetime....from birth through the whole span if life.

I Really hope and pray that SCDD gets this levy passed. This is a win/win situation. Its not to up your taxes at all. You will have the same amount of taxes its just to make sure that SCDD actually get some of the tax money thats gave and I think thats wonderful because my heart goes out to the people in need of these schools. I know this is a very good Addition to Scioto County and they deserve great things!! They are so wonderful with the Special needs people and I know several people that work there that take Pride in their jobs and love every second of being there to help. Please help spread the word,Vote Yes for the SCDD Levy :) Thankyou-

I just looked at the link you posted. Do you think drug prevention education would actually work? I mean, there's DARE, at least we had DARE when I was in school. Just because someone is telling you drugs are bad, doesn't mean they're going to listen.

Silly. Once a politician has your money, do you really think they'll let go of it?

Vote No and your taxes will just get funneled to someones pet pork project, it won't go back to your pocket.

Vote Yes, you get to keep helping these kids.

I think that doing what ever we can will help more than sitting around and doing nothing.

Also, this isn't going to be like the DARE program, I copied this from the Facebook page:

•Evidence Based Curriculum for drug use prevention will be implemented
•Educational materials/equipment to support the curriculum will be purchased
•A Certified Prevention Educator will be placed in each school district throughout Scioto County
•A Prevention Education program would align the county with State and Federal initiatives for additional funding

At the point that Scioto County is at right now, I truly do not think we should criticize. Our community is in a hole and needs to be pulled out, there are corrective measures for adults but as with anything, it has to be a process that begins when children are younger. I have children, and I would rather them receive the drug prevention education versus not receive it. Surely they will be better off that way, the way everything is being done now is NOT working. So, try something different.

All this drug eductation is a joke. Enough of our money is going to people that are on drugs and about drugs! NOTHING will stop the drug problem besides people OD'ing.. Druggies are not wanting to get off drugs. Im so sick and tired of all this Solace and rehab and SOK talk.. This obviously is NOT working... Maybe have an after school program and summer group for kids and teens to give them something to do so they wont fall for partying because they'd actually have something to do. When I was a teen we had the CAO youthgroup. That kept me out of trouble. We had fun! And in the group require drug testing as well. I mean pretty much everyone knows what drugs do so why do they need told over and over? I just dont get it... Vote no on Save our Kids.. Its a Joke

Really? Do all elementary school students know what drugs do? I don't think so. Actually, if you would take the time to branch out and actually study what you are saying "doesn't work", then you would realize there is a LARGE recovery community in Scioto County. This HAS worked and is STILL working. I think Save our Kids is a plan, and that's what we need because "Portia" I will tell you what, Portsmouth is a sinking ship right now and I think we should fight to save it rather than just "let them all OD". Do you know how many families and friends have struggled with drug addiction in our area? Nearly everyone. Rich, poor, black, white, smart, and dumb. It can happen to any type of person. So, as we follow your plan and let all of the drug addicts OD, what is that doing to help the children following behind them? Nothing. They will just get addicted and overdose as well, so your plan Portia, fails. What's your next suggestion?

The one thing that I do agree with you on is that there should be some businesses open that provide some type of entertainment for young people. But, I don't believe that is any reason for you to refer to something trying to be done to benefit our community as a "joke". Even when the cruise strip was still open, it gave something for teenagers to do, a place to socialize and meet other people. Sure, there was bad that came with it, but most of the people down there were just simply wanting to have fun and get out of the house. As sad as it may be, even in towns where there are things for teenagers to do, there are still problems with drugs, it goes more unnoticed because it is a bigger city. All I am saying, is that this is an option for us to make things better, is it better to take that chance than sit around and do nothing as things get worse and worse?

If the tax levy fails, why exactly wouldn't i keep the money? tax fails = less tax = more money in my pocket. am i not right in this assumption? please explain this and maybe, just maybe, you can change my mind.

Okay this is the DD levy not the levy for Mental Health and recovery levy. The DD levy is not a tax increase if it fails your taxes would go down by a few bucks a year, but services to those most venerable in our county would be greatly impacted. Vote yes and your taxes will not increase and services to this population will be secure.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Leo

This is one of those days when money slips through your fingers in no time at all unless you're very vigilant about your spending habits. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to stop yourself splashing out whenever the fancy takes you, whether or not you can afford it. You're especially drawn to tempting little treats and luxurious indulgences.
