Portland, TN CORRUPTED police officers

Wow! I am born and raised a Portlander. I love Portland! Sure it has its problems, but what town doesn't? Just pick your poison I suppose! Sure its bible thumping thats the beauty of Portland, no there aren't any big name sit down restaraunts, but thats why I live there. If Portland doesn't offer what you need, Hwy 52 is the fastest way to the interstate!

Ok. Portland is not the only small city with a small drug problem. Every small town across the US has drugs, duh. I guarantee if you go to a "nice" town such as Brentwood or Hendersonville, that their are just as many drugs floating around there too. Don't hate Portland for it, its EVERYWHERE! As far as gossip is concerned, it also goes on in every small town across the nation. It's a thing they call Small Town, USA.

Okay let's actually talk to someone who lives in Portland, associates with Portland people AND Portland kids, AND has BEEN in Portland High School!
1. WORRIED, if you think Portland is the only city with "corrupted" police officers then you're wrong. I'm sure that Westmoreland doesn't have perfect police officers. I'm also sure that everytime anyone I know drives through your incest-fested town he or she gets a ticket or pulled over. So please explain this to me. Secondly, if you think that Mr. & Mrs. Brewer are "drug dealers" there is obviously something wrong with you. Mainly because they are possibly the sweetest people on the planet and they are also people of God. By the way, they don't even live in Scattersville. So please, get your information straight. Do you even know them personally or are your just talking out of your butt? I think so. Don't hate on Corey & his family because he is successful and you're stuck in Westmoreland, which by the way, is no better than Portland or anywhere else in this country, I might add!! Okay and maybe there's not many businesses in Portland but if you don't live here why is that any of your business? Can you tell me that WESTMORELAND has something more to offer??? That's going to be a NO!
2. BRAD, not everyone in the town is a redneck. I'm sure you have room to talk. But you know what? We're very proud to be bible thumpers. I wish you could be more like us!! You would have a much happier life and you would have a wonderful afterlife. Sorry.
3. DAVID, are you honestly sitting there saying that Portland is the only place in this country or world that gossips? Are you kidding me? Portland is a small town. Of course there is going to be gossip!! It's inevitable. Gossip is even in large cities. GOSSIP IS EVERYWHERE!!!! In fact, you were "gossiping" about something when you posted your lovely little comment. Oh, and Portland IS God's gift because everything and everyone on this planet is God's gift. Maybe you should go to Portland and attend one of our many churches and learn that. Again, we're proud to be Bible thumpers, thank you.
4. YOUNGIN, you have absolutely no proof that people have gotten away with things by having sex with cops! The Portland cops that I know would never do that!! No wonder everyone thinks our town is full of gossipers, you're one of them!! If you can show actual proof that this happens, you can post stuff like that. Until then, please, get real. Oh, and if you don't like living in Portland so much, then why don't you just move? No one is stopping you. Need help moving? There are SO many nice people in Portland, you could probably find tons of volunteers to help you!
Yes maybe there are a lot of accidents to teens in Portland. That's just fate. Unfortunately, all the kids that have died were going to die whether they were in Portland or not. If it's your time to go.. you're going to go. Yes, that is another bible thumping idea of mine.
People in Portland are very nice. I have met some of the best people and friends I could ever meet in Portland. Not all of the kids in Portland do drugs and not everyone gossips or thinks "their crap doesn't stink."
TO ALL OF YOU WHO ARE TALKING BAD ABOUT PORTLAND REALLY NEED TO QUIT! IF YOU DON'T LIVE THERE, YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO SPEAK ABOUT IT!! TALK ABOUT YOUR OWN TOWN BECAUSE BELIEVE ME, THERE IS SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT!!!!

I agree with everything this person says, I have personally been privvy to cops not giving tickets for sex and some of the young ones do it just for the attation it gets them.As for the drugs disappearing, a very definate yes I know one ems worker who told me straight out she got pot from the local cops from the trunks of their patrol cars.And as the one man who has been in the way of stores and resteruants (we all know who) his kids are some the worst offenders that semm to rack up alot of get out jail free cards.The only reson some don't see it is because they choose not too. And do you really think the cops are going to this out in the open.Look how long it took to get Bill off the force. Lord the things he never got caught for!!!!!!!!!!

I have lived in Portland off and on for more than 10yrs, and I like it. Yes, there are bad cops, but there are some good ones too...take Officer Mallard for instance... I have seen him help people with car trouble, and older people with their groceries, and directions, he's always as nice and respectful as he can be. He is a good cop. As far as drugs go...I live right outside of Scattersville with my children and everyone in our neighborhood seems nice.I haven't noticed any craziness going on. As far as decent res. go..try El Moro..it's great. However, my best advice is to tell you...get the heck out of our town and stay out...we don't like you either

my guess is none of you have ever lived in a big city. if you dont like living in portland , heres an idea move !!!

WOW! So much hate! This is not the Portland I remember and I do hope that when we move back it will be the peaceful place it was just a few years ago. We love our little farm and raised very healthy happy children there. They never were in trouble and are now all in the Military as well as my husband. All I ask is that who ever keeps breaking into our home there please please stop it. We are struggeling every day to make ends meet on a military salery and cannot afford to keep fixing things in the house. My husbands truck was stolen a couple of years ago and now someone went into the house and took our stove and fridge. This is a really low down thing to do to a U S Marine and his family. If anyone has any information on these thefts please contact the Sumner County Sherrifs office. Can't wait to get home and see everyone again. God Bless and stay safe.

As a transplant to Arkansas I can't wait to move back home, in or around Portland. I was shocked when I started reading these blogs because, this is not the Portland I remember or see when I come home. I have 2 children that still live in Portland and this is not the town they live in either.

Westmoreland, maybe if you wouldn't bring your drugs to Portland you wouldn't get stopped. Keep your wife at home and then maybe she wouldn't be sleeping with the PD.{yes, the gossip travels no matter where you are at.

To those of you who don't like Portland come on down to Arkansas. You night find the kind of town you are looking for and give those of us who want to come back to Portland a nicer place to move into.

I,have lived in portland 15yrs and its not been all great the drugs in portland,tn is getting bad i have been clean for 10 months and im thankful that igot awayfrom it but i have seen alot happen in portland tn there,s alot of people on crack in portland and its hurting alot children the drug dealers in scattersville,dont care about what they do to family i think the portland police should be doing more than what they are doing you;ve got franklin ky drug dealers coming in and selling there dope here and not a damn thing there doing about it but pray that they dont see there child go threw what ive ben threw and what other addicts haven ben threw its not pretty in well ,thank you for bring the sobject up I hope portland tn people are listing yours truely ...................shan

I have been through Portland and surrounding areas plenty of times. Actually lived in Portland years ago. If you really want to see BAD things, come to Clarksville Tn. Some call Clarksville, Little Chicago.

I have lived in portland for most of my life. I completely agree that there is something screwed up in this town. I used to work night shift and got off around 3-4 am. Police would pull me over for strange reasons. One night I was taking a coworker home and missed the road. When I turned around, I was pulled over for looking
"suspicious" and had to wait for my car to be searched before I could go home. I've never been arrested for anything and my car is not one that looks suspicious. Also, I know of a man in town whose father worked for the pd. I dated him for awhile and discovered that he had a record. When I confronted him he became violent. I called the police and they arrested him for aggravated assault. Meanhwhile they're apologizing to him the whole time for having to arrest him and asking him how his folks are. It nearly took a miracle to prove him guilty bc his father was interfering. So much for police protection. Since that happened people in this town treat me differently. They never did have a lack of gossip to pass about me anyway though. I moved her in H.S. and some POPULAR girl thought I liked her b.f. and the chain of haters and gossipers started there. People that were friends w/her started nasty rumors. The next thing I know, people I didn't even know were talking about how much they hated me. Thing is I really don't care what anybody in this sad little town thinks. Most of them are gonna have kids, get fat, and live on welfare for the rest of their lives. I on the other hand am now attending a University w/ a great GPA and have many "real" friends outside this town. When I graduate making 60-80 grand a year we'll see who gets the biggest laugh. I wouldn't recommend this town to anyone except crackheads and people with no moral upbringing...

I ran across this while looking for something else and am completely embarrassed as to what people are saying and how they are saying it. I am a college graduate that was born, raised, am raising my children and will probably die in this wonderful little town. I wasn't one of the most popular people in school, but I had some wonderful friends, that I am still friends with today (some 15 years later). I have never had a problem with gossip, cops, drugs, or anything else that I didn't bring on myself.(On a side note, you sound much more intelligent when you are not using foul language and making outrageously distorted comments, particularly slandering others anonymously on a blog) When you go looking for trouble, you can almost guarantee that you will find it. If you keep your nose clean and out of other people's business, then you will not usually find yourself in compromising situations. Also, if you are so unhappy with Portland, and the people of Portland, maybe you should find a city that makes you happy, move there. Then everyone is happy!

I, like another writer, got on this site by trying to look up something else about portland. I have lived in portland for 8 yrs. Im a young mother w 2 teenage kids. My children know there are drugs around. I have news for you. THE DRUGS ARE EVERYWHERE! They simply have better things to do w their time. My kids are into sports and are constantly active and thank the LORD, have never been in trouble w the law. I believe any town, big or small, has its problems (drug or otherwise). We all have to choose whether or not we want to waste our lives being high all the time or riding high on life. Portland is a great small town. The drug dealers...stay away from them. The corrupt police dept...do something about it..or just stay on the right side of the law.

My God. I live in San Diego now, but I've been thinking about moving to Portland, TN., but after reading this blog I don't know. Am I making a wrong decision?

Absolutely not, Everything you have read pretty much boils down to someone trying to blame their bad decisions on someone else! I have lived in Portland all my life and am now raising my children there. I can't imagine being anywhere else!

I found out that our rights have been completely taken away, I found out that you don't disrespect a power tripping cops' authority. Mr. Brian or Bryan Hughes 45063 a North Portland Cop is a pathological liar. I made the mistake and told him what I thought of him. That he is a hidden cause of trouble and inconvenience, but there is another word for the words above. For mere words I received a beating and was issued false felony citations.
I have never been arrested in my life. I’m 40 yrs old have never been in trouble except for 11yrs ago I got a DUI and they didn’t arrest you back then they just issued a citation. I’m the furthest thing from a criminal or felon to say the very least. I still can’t believe that this so called police officer would actually do such a thing. This can’t be happening, but sure enough it is.
Before now I would have asked myself, why would a police officer make up these ridiculous lies if it wasn’t true?-well because they can, AND THEY DO!!!!!!!!!
There must be something mentally wrong with this Police Officer, he is supposed to serve and protect? The complete oppasite. Hughes and others like him not to submite to ie dectectors before they are aloud to write felony citations. Someone needs to investigate him very closely.
What can be done to stop this from happening to others? It must have been going on for years, if these cops today are still doing things of this nature and are getting away with this nonsense. IT MUST BE STOPPED
The state won’t do anything about the corruption going on right in font of their faces. The state wants its revenue, THE STATE OF OREGON MUST BE CORRUPT TOO. I not only have to prove I’m innocent but I have to pay thousands of dollars to prove I’m innocent of all false and fabricated citations issued to me by officer Brian Hughes... If I’m found guilty then I will go to jail, completely innocent of all charges-So kids “YOU TO CAN” be thrown in jail for NOTHING but your MOUTH -freedom of speech IS APPARENTLY being impeached. Officer Hughes-Thinks hes above the law. Don't make the same mistake, don't tell the coward he needs to do his job and go get a real criminal by any means, because the mental case will falsely write citations for you so now your the criminal, and you will be tried as a criminal in a court of law, PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS and then have to prove to a jury that this is all untrue. HOW IN THE WORLD IS THIS ALOUD.

I know there are some good police officers that are brave and do their job. I have met a few myself.

I can't believe what I've been reading! I lived there for 28 years. I have moved to a place where police corruption is a reality and drugs are a real problem. I know Corey's parents personally and have known them for years. They are some of the most kind-hearted people I have ever met. I went through a time where I was working 2 jobs and had no money. Mr. Brewer picked my trash up every week without fail and I didn't pay him for almost a year and he never asked me for payment and never stopped picking up my trash. He even brought new barrels when mine would rust out and still never got any money until I was able to finally pay him in full. I knew they were struggling too and had kids to support. He was using his own money for gas and barrels for me and keeping a record of my bill, but never once asking for the money. I don't know and drug dealers around here that work hauling trash and they sure wouldn't be as consistent about showing up every week as he was. He is a wonderful man and the whole family are God-fearing good-natured people. Sounds like a bad case of jealousy for their recent success. I can't think of anyone I would rather see receive the blessings God has given them. Did you hear about Corey attending church and handing out money to all of the people in attendance because he felt like God had led him to do it? Don't know any crack dealers doing that either. I don't many that know God exists in the world they live in.

First of all, for all the people that claim they are pulled over and searched for no reason, that is ridiculous. Tell you what, if a police officer pulls you over and tells you he is going to search your car, but gives no reason...just say NO. There has to be probable cause for them to search your car and if they don't have any probable cause, guess what? That's right, they CAN'T... So for all you rocket scientists that claim to have had your cars searched for no reason, next time this happens, you know what to do. Of course, I can tell you that the people who have written these silly comments, most likely had drugs in the car and are just very upset that they were caught. Thank You Portland Police for catching druggies in this town, keep up the good work.
Secondly, Portland may have it's problems but so does EVERY other town in America. Are there corrupt cops in Portland, maybe. Are there good police officers, YES. Are there drugs in Portland, of course. There are drugs in EVERY town in America. Are there poor people in Portland, YES. Are there rich people, YES. What a lot of you negative people out there fail to understand is that every town has it's faults, yet there are also many positives. Portland is a wonderful town. Gossip travels fast around Portland; however, if you're in trouble or need help, that travels fast too and the good people of Portland will sure enough be there to help you in times of need. It's a shame that people feel the need to come on here and slander others due to their lack of self-esteem, self-worth, and sense of jealousy. I am sorry to those of you that feel they have been mistreated by the "EVIL" police officers of Portland; nonetheless, when you actually think about it, Portland has a very low crime rate and is a safe place to live. The roads definately need to be fixed due to the high number of teenage accidents, but that is not the fault of police officers.
For any one reading this, Portland really is a great place to live. Friendly people, many churches, little crime rate, growing town, low cost homes, and beautiful land.
