I was raised in Portland and never had the problems with the drugs freely floating around Portland like we do today. You have officers who are stopping teenagers every time they leave their home, harrassing them continuously. If these kids have drugs on them they take the drugs and LOTS of times never list it on the tickets. Doesn't take a genius to figure out where the drugs are going. You have one officer who's brother and family are known crack dealers and never do they get caught. One part of Portland is full of crack dealers, known as Scattersville. One of the dealers has a wife who teaches at the HIGH SCHOOL, are they ever arrested, NO! Have they ever been NO! Wanna know why because both their children are big college basketball players and splattered on the front page of the papers often. Detectives are scared of them or are getting payed very well for allowing this to go on and yes, they allow all this to go on. So, if anyone is thinking of moving to Portland, TN better think twice. And shopping is terrible, they refuse to allow Wal-mart to build because Wal-mart refuses to buy land from one well known builder so the city keeps voting it down, no decent restaurants. Now tell me money does not buy growth and security.

I dont know about the police, Ive raised 2 children here ones 24 ones 17 theyve never been in trouble or pulled over by the police but I cant say that Im postive on the police corruption, but thats not where your wrong, my son played basketball w/ Corey and his parents dont sell crack, his parents are good people, now Scattersville has been know for drugs but thats the decay of our society, its laughable if you think Coreys parents are paying off the police because it means you havent seen their home, they cant pay anyone off they are doing the best they can to live, their sons havent made any money yet and God Bless them when they do, they should help their parents Jason and Corey are excellent young men and they didnt get that way on their own , thats the influence of good parents, I dont have a undying faith to Portland everyone knows everyones business and makes up what they dont know , but I do know this family and they are good people, the Bible says dont let your good be evil spoken so Im just taking that on as the reason for my reply, have a nice day :)

I don't care if you played basketball with them or not. And I never said they dealed drugs themselves and yes, their children are much better individuals than their parents. And yes, they dealt crack out of their home for years. The father would buy up all the little glass roses from town & country market and sold or gave them as an incentive to smoke it with. You have no idea what your talking about lady. As far as I know they have stopped dealing but I know for a fact that they were regular dealers whether you like it or not. The truth is the truth. And by the way Corey just bought them another home beside the one they used to live in. And most drug dealers do deal out of old run down homes so if busted they lose nothing. I did not make any of this up. But I am soooo fed up with this crap going on in what used to be a wonderful little town. Truth hurts sometimes, doesn't it!

The fact of the matter is Portland is a wonderful place to live. I am sorry, if you have to drive 10 minutes to the neareast walmart. I am sorry, if you were arrested and now you hate the police department. I am sorry, if you had a bad experience in school and now hate teachers. I am sorry if 14 restaurants is not enough for you. The fact of the matter is the world is not perfect. Westmoreland is no better place to live than Portland. And if you want to make a difference in the is world, do something about it! Dont' go to a website and slander other individuals. If someone finds so many faults in the world around them, the fault usually rests with them. Truth hurts sometimes, doesn't it!

One thing is for sure, Everyone in Portland thinks that they are better than everyone else. Sure, there are some really great people that live there, but everyone talks about how they think their crap don't stink. If there was a law that said you could not gossip about people EVERYONE in Portland would be arrested. I didn't know how bad it was until I moved away. I moved to another state and still heard about what everyone thinks about everyone else that still lives there. Grow up and stop thinking that Portland people are gods gift because everyone else is laughing at you.

I don't know anything about the police in Portland....so I can't comment on them. But, before I moved here, I lived in a small town in Ohio. One day I was at the park and there were kids obviously "stoned". When I reported this to the police and asked them to go to the park...the policeman said to me, "Lady, they know where I live..I have a wife and children at home"....they were afraid of them !! I wonder if that's how it is here, too. Just wondering.

i live in indiana so can't say a whole lot, but i'm sorry for every one there, my ex wife lives there. now i've never had any problems with the police there, but of course her family has and every time i have had situations there, i have asked for their help. they have been very willing to help to their fullest extent. now this all has to deal with child custody while my children have been there to visit their mother so i can't say a thing about the drug problem. but believe this, if there ever is a situation where my children are involved with anything to do with drugs, they will have visited tennessee for the last time!!!! its not perfect by any means here, but at least when they are here, i know they are as safe as they can be..

Wow, I was looking up something completely different when I ran across this page. People are so down on the police. One person said "they pull you over for no reason." What reason did they give for pulling you over? They tell you when they stop you. The reason they gave is the reason you were stopped! Not only that, but if they are going to search your car, they are going to have a reason. They don't just search cars for no reason! It is a waste of their time to search a car unless they have reason to believe they will find drugs. Either that or you've been arrested and are sitting in their backseat. As far as them taking drugs and keeping them...seriously...how would you even know about the people they are stopping with drugs. If you're so close with these people than you're part of the problem! We want the drugs out of here and all you can complain about is the cops taking them from the teenagers. Who are you to say what they do with them after they take them? After doing a little research on arrests made and speaking with the officers, it's obvious, there is a drug problem a drug problem in Portland. That doesn't mean we slam the police who are out there trying to stop the problem. Some people will always hate the police, which will then probably lead to their children hating and fearing the police. It's good to see on here that there are a few people who stand true and don't join in the bashing. There needs to be more people like that!

I have lived in Portland for almost 9 years. I'm 26 years old. And I would never consider dating anyone that lives in this town because I know what kind of drug problems this town has. I used to live not to far away from the police station, and I never heard anything go on there. I have had friends that told me if certain police officers pulled me over to offer them sex, or ask if I could buy drugs from them, and I woudln't get a ticket. I know this is true, because I have heard stories about my friends getting off the hook from tickets by having sex with the police officers! I'm tired of living in a town where everything closes at 10 pm, you know if we actually had something to do in this town, the drug problem might not be as bad! I am ashamed to tell people I live in Portland, because then they assume that I'm a trailer trash, crack whore with 9 kids by 9 different daddies! I'm College educated, live in a nice house, and have NO children! I'm tired of the appearance of our town, so please do something!
