State employees to get $1,000 bonus instead of pay raise

oh boy here we go again. same thing every year. The only diffence is that the Gov said when he 1st took office was that he valued and admired the employees of this State, and that he was going to make sure they were taken cared of when pay, health insurance, and retirement issues came to his desk for signature. What a slap in the face. $1000 dollars is better than nothing, but still it's a slap in the face. I bet all of the State Agencies (FHP, FWC, DOT, ABT, etc) will see an exodus of people in the next few months. Good luck to all and godspeed.

I hope every state worker quits and goes to work for a municipality. Shame on all of you for not compensating us. We can't afford to live in South Florida on our pay as it is. See who shows up to help if Katrina II hits South Florida. I don't know how you sleep at night.

Wow! Let's break the bank on that $1,000. I guess all the hard work and every day getting up putting on your bullet proof vest and kissing your family good bye to fight crime, drugs, & losers is only worth a one time $1,000 fee. But why should this year be any different then the following years.. Every year rolls around and DHSMV has to fight tooth and nail to get even a 3% raise, and even then we do not get because it's "Not in the budget". So, the question is to the Governor & the Legislative - "When will it be in the budget"?- How about finding different ways to make money like - All the funds for traffic ticket written goes to the state.

The Governor and the Legislative should be ashamed of how poorly they pay their employees! Every year it is the same excuse and I am sick of it! Do they get a pay raise every year? Lets see them try to live on the salary they pay the people who fight crime in this very populated and dangerous state! Th $1000 is a joke....how much is that after taxes? It won't even cover groceries for a month!

I don't know why we are surprised to the outcome of our pay issue. Hear hear to all of you who jump ship with our state and go to the counties for employment. AND lets just say its only $673 not 1000. For shame on all of you, especially you Governor, for the people....NOT.

Nobody is asking for any huge amounts of money. We just want a fair salary that we can support a family on. The Governor said his priorities were education and safety. I guess our legislature does not see it that way. Shame on you Senate President Ken Pruitt and House Speaker Marco Rubio. You two are to blame. Next time you get a chance look at the memorials for all the state law enforcement officers that have died while serving this great state. Especially look at the 41 Florida State Troopers that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Thanks for nothing. You can keep my $673.

Gee thanks! I get to take home $673, while you turn around and increase my two sons college tuition 30-40%.

I dont know about the rest of you. but I know I would prob. be better off quiting the state and joining the city. more money, good benifits, back-up, and now it's even more respect. god knows we dont get it from the state. 1000 bonus, what a joke. keep it.

$1000.00! Oh Boy! That won't even cover my gas to go to and from work for the next 16 weeks. Thanks for nothing Gov. By the way, if this is considered a bonus you know it won't figure into your retirement if you are in your last few years and you are trying to build up that pay per year.

Is something u rub on for temporary releif of pain. What about the OPS who have been working for years and twice as hard. Career service folk do get something these poor souls don't get nothing. Look at it this way, you get treated better than some.

673 is a slap in the face. you can even get one month of grocery with that much less gasoline for your vehicle. working as a state employee we are the lease ones to get recognize when we serve the publix and the community. we desire more and we get less. however, i am thankfull that i have a job and able to bearly survive.

Then quit.

We should all work for the Federal Gov't...check out the pay scale GS 11 Claims representative which is close to the Processer jobs that start at 26000,00. The postition can start at a GS5 or GS7 in 2 or 3 years it goes up to a GS 11 up to GS11 step 10.
Wageses the GS 11.1 is 52,000 per year. Plus we get a COLA every year!!!!:)

Wow-weeeee! A whole $800 or so after deductions bonus for A YEAR. They wouldn't pay for my new barbacue grill! I can make more than that selling household junk on eBay in a month. Watch how the politicians grease their wallets in this tax crunch. Yeah.

The state employees should tell 'em to keep the change from 1 large, but I guess every little bit helps at home. The State of Florida's motto is, "We would rather owe it to you, than cheat you out of a pay raise!"

I have worked there and loved it. I am thinking about doing again, at least part-time.
