We all know the Michigan economy has been struggling lately, along with many other states. We are seeing foreign companies buying smaller local businesses and then taking the jobs from the local communities. And now we have the possibility to lose another, GMA Cover. As a resident of Port Huron I think we need to keep our local businesses alive and support them other wise we might lose them, which can mean losing jobs.

John Engler of Michigan was the Governor who started all of the problems in Michigan.

Engler was the Republican Governor who was praised by Republicans for "spending money" and "putting people to work" -- things that Republicans are now criticizing President Obama for wanting to do.

But look at what Engler did at the end of his term as Governor. Engler made bad investments, and he spent a LOT of money o things that did not bring in a return on investment. As a result, the next Governor inherited all of the financial problems that Engler started.

Governor Engler was telling Auto workers employed by the Big-3 that it was okay for them to be making $25 an hour to do the exact same job that people across the street employed by a "subsidiary" of the Big-3 were making only $8 to do. The difference was that the Big-3 employees had a UAW union with hundreds of thousands of voters who Engler wanted to kiss butt with.

Engler knew those types of salaries were out of line with the auto industry, because the foreign manufacturers were paying employees about $16 an hour, with healthcare that needed to be purchased. The Big-3 were paying workers $25 an hour with full healthcare. And we are talking about "unskilled" factor-line work. The fact that Engler sided with the unions ultimately put the Big-3 out of business 15 years later.

Let me do a brief comparison of what was "said" and "done" by the Republicans and Democrats:

* John McCain "said" he doesn't like the way Barack Obama wants to "spend money" in order to put people to work and get them employed. It's a sad thing that McCain doesn't want to start money circulating in the economy like that. Nevertheless, McCain claims this is for the best, because he has repeatedly said "spending like that will leave our children in debt."

* President Bill Clinton literally Balanced the Budget, Created a Budget Surplus, and used that budget surplus to cut the National Debt IN HALF during his terms in office. In other words, President Clinton used the extra money to pay down the debt in order to put our children in much better financial shape.

* President Bush inherited a balanced budget and a budget surplus from President Clinton. But rather than using the leftover money to continue paying down the national debt, President Bush literally decided to "Give the money back to the people." This would be the right thing to do IF there was no National Debt; however, it is DEFINITELY the WRONG thing to do when there is a national debt! Normal people like you and me received anywhere from $30 to a couple hundred bucks. But wealthy Republicans like George Bush and John McCain received HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars back! What happened to John McCain saying that he wanted to leave our country with less debt for future generations??? McCain and Bush didn't care about "future generations" when they had a chance to receive all that money back for themselves thanks to oil-producing land that their lucky parents had found! In Bush's term of service, he literally DOUBLED the National Debt!

Take all this into consideration. And just remember that it is the Republicans who are getting in the way of President Obama's plans for "change."

President Obama has already increased the size of the stock market by 25% and won the Nobel Peace Price! He is an amazing man! Write to your Senators and tell them to support President Obama!

Michigan is the product of stuck in the mud. Not to imply a planned event, but the Mississippi-Great Lakes boulevard created the current situation. Early westward expansion brought significant manufacturing to the area, farming to the south-west. All during the event that changed the world. Industrialization- mechanized. Tools and machines. The explosive nature of logistical- material of WW2 contributed to this event of today.

There is only one answer.

Sustainable employment has never been successful when money - tax - is taken from those working and given to those that are not working.

Sustainable job is measured by the amount of goods-materials produced and sold to a consumer. Public works benefits the citizen, but is not sustainable at high levels.

There is near 500 Billion $$ still in the stimulus (this is not real money. Fake. Our grand kids are going to be charged for this money. Get it?)Stupid idea in 1933. The today's 'Brain Trust" politicians claim that they (1933 guys) did not spend enough money.
