I just heard that Menard's is NOT coming to Poplar Bluff after all.

What a shame.

If they keep taking votes and keep voting against these major chains and big businesses coming to Poplar Bluff, then the new hospital will be the only thing in 8 points.

Super 8 and Huddle House will be busy since they will be the nearest places to the hospital to stay and eat.

I heard the same thing at church. Seems the city concel made it too hard on them with the stipulations etc that Menards just backed out and put the property back on the market. I checked with terry stewart and he said that the former menards property is back for sale.

There has been NO votes by the council about Menards, they haven't even submitted plans yet. I think someone is a liar.

Isn't Menards another building or lumber company? If so, then why do we need another one here? Most people have children, PB should cater to them if they want families to move here, because the job market stinks.

Nope. I am not a liar. It's the truth.

Can you imagine the unemployment rate in Poplar Bluff if we got a Menard's, which is a get it all store, a Costco or Sam's, a cracker barrel, and other retail stores like Old Navy, Target etc.

They would employ hundreds. We could support more hotels which would be more jobs. All of the business that goes to Cape and Jonesboro and St Louis would stay here in Poplar Bluff. The more businesses, the more $$ for everybody. It would benefit the housing market and people would be able to afford to make home improvements, and afford gas and groceries.

People could move up in management and make more $$. With more competition in town, the other smaller businesses would have to provide better customer service.

The possibilities are endless. Poplar Bluff could really be something...but you got a bunch of people who really don't give a crap.

The hospital is opening in just a few weeks and we don't have crap going up anywhere.

Just gonna have to nickname the new hospital "Medicaid City" because that's all its gonna be.

Too bad we don't have big businesses coming to town that would supply their employees with insurance, so people could actually use the new hospital. Geez, Louise.

Your information is nonsense. The city is spending millions of dollars on the 8 points project and you think they are going to chase Menards off with a few regulations. At this point the city would kiss Menards ass any way they liked to get them to come to Poplar Bluff. After the election and the transportation district is confirmed then you will get the names of new businesses coming to town. Be patient and don't listen to the idiots making up lies.

The stupidity continues to amaze. None of these stores is coming. Ever. Folks here can barely afford to shop at Walmarts, and then only on the first of the month. The other post said it best: this is Medicaid City. I realize we all WANT a Target, SAMs, Cracker- Barrel, etc. I do too. But these are all shrewd, successful, savvy companies. After one hour in PB, they easily see that they cannot survive here. At least not until the Medicaid Gold Card begins to pay for all you can eat shopping for the welfare bums. If Obama is re-elected, we might just see 8 Points happen!

Medicaid City? That's interesting. Isn't it wonderful that our city is so helpful of the lower income families? Of course, so many people are determined to see government assisstance to the poor as bad. It will soon be Christmas and won't it be nice when people become nice again? Well, for a season anyway.

Who do you think is building all of the roads in and around the 8 Points area? The city is spending millions of tax dollars to attract businesses to the project and cutting taxes for the stores coming in. You retards need to get a life and quit spewing out lies and ridiculous statements.

Stores do not mean wealth. Stores take wealth and circulates a little back into the community.

These are not wealth producing "jobs" they are recycling and removing wealth jobs....

We need manufacturing jobs...
