Okay, I'm reading all the post about all these new stores. If this is true about Cracker Barrel and others , why hasn't anything been said about it in the paper?

<quoted text>if you go by your ideas why would they build in cape if they already have store in jackson. I cant believe how many people already know what is going where. PB serves a large area with all th surrounding cities. More then what people think. And to all the doubters out there o there pb is not a rich community but with the hosp building and all the street work goiing on there will be a lot of growth on oak grove rd and pp highway.my bro works here and is an builing engineer and he says there are a lot of companies looking here to build and he has talked to them about a francise himself. So keep up the rumors someone will be right
Menards has a store in Jackson?!?!?! Yeah....Since when?!?!?!? Are you saying KFVS News was wrong in reporting both on air and on their website that Menards is building in Cape?!?!?!? And I hope that your brother is a much better building engineer than you are a speller...WOW...or some people (buildings) could be in trouble!!!!! LOL

Ain't gonna be no stores. Just another big medicaid station for the poor and lonely that will make a handful rich and famous. They will spend more on ink billing medicaid than any store will make out there.

<quoted text> that is where your wrong, hwy 67/167 (Arkansas ) is in the porscess of becoming a major 4 lane hwy from little Rock to St. Louis and hwy 60 is a major thorfare from interstate 44- interstate 55 or 57. It is a major hub for commurse and commuters . Our Walmart is one of the 10th largest in sales in United states (may have dpoped to 15 since 2005). Out of 2000 stores. Thus town is about to have a major boom!(like it or not)
You have it wrong. people from Little Rock,,St Louis, Cape Girardeau,Springfield are not going to come to Poplar Bull to shop and seek medical attention. All of the towns have 50 times better hospitals and shopping malls. The most Poplar Bluff can hope for is a good family dollar store to move in 8 points. All 8 points will ever be is a mall with a bunck more empty store buildings just like Valley Plaza.

Who cares? It's not like any of these businesses are going to offer competitive wages! Just more worthless service jobs that help keep the poor down. The City council has turned away big wage payers as far back as the 1970's that I know of personally for a FACT! Remember the Saturn plant that was going to come here? They were going to bring 3,000 jobs and start people out at 22 an hour. City council said, "no way jose", we can't have our indentured slaves making enough money to be able to move away and get real jobs. We need to keep them here and starve them so they'll be so desperate for a job they'll work part time minimum wage. Less pay for workers means more money in the business owner's pockets (and the city).

So, you can hype it up all you want about these new places coming in. They don't matter and they probably won't last. Probably be like so many of the other franchises. They come in here, stay for four months, and then close shop because they can't make enough cash flow to survive. Why not? Because they don't cash welfare checks or process EBT. That's how over half the town eats. On government dime. Because they're eligible for benefits and handouts because this area is so poor. And it's poor because the town keeps it poor. The town hasn't grown in over 40 years. The population has stayed the same. The city council rezones residential areas into commercial areas to drive people out into the county. They do population control on the town because the benefit is two-fold. They make more money in taxes on businesses than they do on residential houses. Also, they intentionally keep the population below a certain point so they can get special state and federal aid for small towns. Even our city government works the welfare system! Oh, I bet if independent auditors came around and rifled through every account and every piece of paper they would find out just how fat the city's wallet is getting at the expense of its people.

Even if these places do come here. I don't care. They're worthless jobs that high school 16 year olds can work at with no skills, training, or life experience. Dumb jobs for dumb people. That 17% that someone mentioned earlier.. that tiny amount of people around here with a degree? Yeah, I'm one of those and I wouldn't get out of bed for less than 40K a year.

No one is keeping you here. If you want to spread your wings and make more money (but you'll have to actually work) move to a larger city where there are more oppurtunities. But, do not blame city council, because you are not ambious enough to do that.

You can't really go by the incomes in determining whether a business will thrive. Even the poor people have to live and a lot of those who live here go elsewhere to shop. And that is due to what we have here.(not much)Take a few marketing and business courses and you will see that it's mostly how things are managed that determines failure or success. For a town to grow, there must be incentive, and new business will definitely help. Oh! Perhaps those who are the worst in putting our town down should just move on. Some of us are praying here!

<quoted text>Yes a part-time job is going to build a persons economics where they can start their own business! Wrong, full-time jobs at decient wage will do just that! what in your opinion is a good wage? Do you honestly believe if you pay minumum wage , with no benefits with 25-30 hours a week is really going to change lives! Who are you kidding! Tell you what why don't you try to live a decient life raising a family under those conditions! You my friend would not last a month! Thats roughly $220 tops before taxes a week, do you really believe you could survive on that, no you would be at the mission, or community action begging for help! So put up or shut up because you don't know how most of the people in this town live!
There has to be a match between educational and skill level of the population to jobs. So...if you want to be making above minimum wage, get educated or develop a skill so that you can do that. Don't blame the wage level on the employers. Employers are seeking to run a business as efficiently as possible for maximum profit. That's Business 101. But they will pay what the market rate is for education and skill. So again....get off your ass, quit complaining, get an education, and then you'll get somewhere.
