If they do not want help they should go home. Hospital employees are NOT the patients waitresses or waiters. Most of the time, the patient isn't even PAYING out of their own pockets. If someone calls in sick....whoever is there is expected to work double. Noone is called in because they do not want to pay overtime. I really believe that is a labor violation. And by the way wonder why there are not enough nurses when the nursing schools are full? Because after finding out what is expected of them, they no longer want to be a floor nurse and they move on. Most people go into health care because they genuinely want to help people, then they realize they are taken advantage of, used, abused, weekends, holidays, not to mention exposure to disease and pestilance. And by the way the everyone working in a hospital helps to make that facility run smoothly. Everyone is defendent on each other to do their job. Everyone is important. Now you understand why, I do not use the local hospital. One of the reasons why the chamber of commerce and city council wanted the new 4 lane is so they can get to Saint Louis faster for better health care.

Now that is right on. Ask how many of them would take there loved ones to that hell hole. I am just suprised they havent taken this post off yet. They wont say anything in the DAR about them. They say there hiring all these people. They have laid off over 100 in the last couple months. Never in the paper or on the news.

The hospital is staffed exactly like it needs to be for me. I've made sooooo much $$$$ from the extra shifts for bonus money I'm making nurse practitioner money easy. I only take as many patients as I am supposed to (refuse to take any more) and no more, which is the same as working a scheduled shift. Rolling in dough thanks to understaffinf!!!!

When the Company actually has to hire nurses to staff the new building, they will fire the lot of them to entice nurses there. Trust me, the old gals running the show now are "known" in the nursing world. I hope the new CEO will actually run the place, and not just be a corporate figurehead. All this staff unhappiness could be resolved if the entire place had more than skeleton crews in every area. It's not that way at the Coppertop and it sure won't be that way at BRCH when it is completed!!!

Get rid of the workers who can draw their SS, and hire new workers who don't make as much. Not only would it get rid of some trouble makers but would save a lotta bucks.

That is true...but there are not to many employers to choose from in Poplar Bluff like there would be in a larger city. Somebody stated in an earlier post that travel nurses don't always have to take as many pts as the regular staff. That may have been true here but does not always work that way...I have done 3 travel assignments in my 15 year career and only one of them truly worked the way my contract read. The other 2 were an oppurtunity for the management to do whatever they want...and they basically walked all over the travelers. If they do strike more than likely it will be a scenario that will only last for 2-3 days at the most and the hospital will bring in staff to man the hospital for those 2-3 days and will have very few pts.

LaLaMan wrote: Oh yea, go on strike and have people in need die. Do you know how many people that are in nursing school that will jump to take your spot. Every job have their shitty moments, But you have to remember that people are losing their jobs everyday, not saying to let them run over y'all, but be thankful that you even have that job. Plus, don't y'all get paid like $25+ an hour. Sit down. Actually LaLaMan most nurses in this town do not make $25+ an hour...and if you would walk in a nurses shoes for 12 hours+ you might gain a different insight that would make you realize it is worht every penny they are paid.

People who can draw Social Security usually have been there for years and draw big bucks. They should retire and let those with families and who are going to school have a chance to work. Like I said it would get rid of many of the trouble makers and save big bucks.

MOST OF THE NURSES AT THE HOSPITAL ARE RUDE AND DONT CARE. THEY WANT TO COMPLAIN BECAUSE THE PATIENTS ARE CRABBY. THEY ARE FREAKIN SICK AND ARE IN A PLACE WHERE THEY HAVE TO DEPEND ON STRANGERS FOR EVERYTHING THEY NEED. wHY DONT YOU LOOK AT THE CNA'S THEY ARE THE ONES THAT GET TREATED LIKE CRAP.THEY DO ALL THE DIRTY WORK. THE NURSES WILL DISRESPECT ANY OTHER HOSPITAL STAFF FROM HOUSEKEEPING, TO CNA, ECT. IF YOUR NOT A NURSE THAN YOU DONT GET RESPECT FROM ONE. AND AFTER A NURSE HAS BEEN THERE FOR 20 YEARS THEY SHOULD GET RID OF THEM. BY THEN THEY HAVE GROWN BITTER AND DISLIKE THEIR JOB ANYWAYS. YOU SHOULD ONLY BE A NURSE WHILE YOU CARE. AFTER THAT GOES AWAY AND IT JUST BECOMES A JOB THAT YOU HATE WAKING UP TO, GO FIND ANOTHER ONE. THESE PATIENTS ARENT THERE BECAUSE THEY WANT TO BE, SO HAVE A HEART. AND IVE SEEN FIRST HAND HOW SOME PATIENTS FROM NURSING HOMES GET MISTREATED, OR ANY PATIENT THAT CANT TALK OR HEAR WELL.

Some of the workers do care about the patients, but a lot of them don't. They are there for the pay, and yes, they are understaffed. Those that have to work are overworked because there are those who are there just for the pay and to start trouble. As long as the running of the hospital is left up to the directors, you will continue to have this. Check it out and see. If you really do care about the care you are getting, do some research and find out for yourself. Furthermore, they should quit hiring so many travelling nurses and letting the lpns work at other jobs. Why pay nurse's wages when they don't have to?

I hope they bring in agency nurses for a few days at the end of the month for this. It would be nice to see everyone show up for work and get paid while they are paying agency nurses to sit in a hotel just in case they need them. They are already paying out the a$$ with bonus money shifts. They definitely know how to waste money. Why would nurses not unionized tell the bosses when they are going to strike. I bet it happens in march and the nurses are going to see what hand the administrators play prior to the real strike.
