Who cares? As long as they rub my back, neck and shoulders, I'm happy. Go work in a phu phu spa if you want to rob people. For the kind of money they charge in those places, you should get a happy ending to boot.

A couple of ding dongs from NJ and WA who have no clue what we therapists make at Massage Envy. I average $40 per hour and work as much or as little as I want. I have no over head, no advertising fees, no traveling, don't have to schedule my appointments, supplied everything I need, great atmosphere etc. etc.... Oh yeh, I also have benefits, CEU's paid for and a 401k plan. I would say Massage Envy takes care of their therapists like no other. If you want to sit on your rear end all day in a phu phu spa - be my guest. I'll be booked solid!

There will always be people who consider price alone when looking for health care services. These are the folks who will proudly point out that they were able to get a complete steak dinner at Denny's for under 10 bucks. They would never consider saving their money and going to Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Flemings etc. for a truly magnificent steak dinner.
I own my own practice and book my 60-minute massages every 90 minutes to give myself time to properly interview and assess my clients. If I find something that needs further attention during the massage, I may spend another 10 minutes treating it for no additional charge. My clients appreciate this and re-book regularly.
Massage Envy is the Denny's of massage. Unfortunately, they have found their niche in the world of "cheaper is better."

Regarding my last post: Upon reflection, I must admit that many massage students fresh out of school still have student loans to pay off. A good table, towel warmer, linens, lotions & creams, waiting room furniture etc. cost money. Then there's the cost of incorporating, getting your business license, finding a good location and moving in. So, for you Massage Envy and similar places MIGHT be a good starting point. But for goodness' sake, don't make a lifetime career out of working for some place where they pay you the minimum possible (and they pocket the majority of your hard-earned profit) and they don't give you the time or the authority to do what's indicated for your clients.

I work for a Massage Envy in river Oaks Houston. It is in the weathiest part of Houston. I make 15.00 for each hour of massage and average near 30.00 and hour when you include the gratuity. I work the holidays with no additional holiday pay. I'm scheduled for 5 hours a day but have to work 6 day a week to get the hours. there is no time for proper SOAP notes between clients and if I want to reduce my hours I risk losing my job. they pay me 15.00 to give a massage but charge me 20.00 to get one.

have had over 100 massages in my life...massage envy has no better or no worse massages than the most expensive spa or resort massage. most massage therapists love what they do. i joined massage envy because it is an economical way to get a good massage. there are several good to very good therapists at the ME i patronize. i tip very well for good massage...and now will make sure i remember that they are somewhat underpaid by their management and tip even more. this is a free market...if therapists are willing to give a massage for $15, and patrons are willing to pay $49 for it...that works, doesnt it? ME provides needed/wanted services, provides jobs and benefits, makes a profit. i'm not sure what everyone finds objectionable about this. i'd rather do this than spend $125 on a massage that may not be as good!

Massage Envy is the WalMart of massage. They pay their therapists the bare minimun, write them up or fire the therapists if they are ever sick, and mislead or directly lie to clients about contractual obligations.
They are priced to drive competition out, and will set up-like Starbucks or WalMart- several in a small area just drive out local businesses. The average person or business cannot compete with the tax breaks given to big-box business, nor can the therapists find much other work.

Good not cheap,
Cheap not good.
Only in America can someone take a service, share crop it out, and lower the price to rock bottom. You get what you pay for.

1. Massage Envy will continuesly burn out their therapists.

2. Because of the fast burn out rate therapists become less thrilled about their career and see it as a job that they have to go to in order to make money.

3. The guest is unaware that they are getting second rate treatment because they are uneducated about massage.

4. If the therapist was happy about his/her career then he/she would be more willing to educate the guest in order to give the best care.

Point: Massage Envy does not care about their therapists or their guests.

P.S. The person who runs the Ankeny, Iowa branch doesn't know the difference between a deep tissue massage and a swedish massage...hmm...no comment

YES YOUR BUSINESS IS OUT FOR ANY AND EVERYONE TO SEE. THE FRONT DESK LADIES KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MASSAGE. THEY ONLY KNOW WHAT THEY PICK UP FROM THE THERAPISTS. WE DO MASSAGES BACK TO BACK EVERY SINGLE DAY! SO IF YOUR THE 4TH CLIENT OF THE DAY GOOD LUCK BECAUSE I'VE ALREADY MASSAGED 3 PEOPLE AHEAD OF YOU =) OH AND THOSE CUTE LITTLE BLANKETS THAT LIE ON THE MASSAGE TABLE.... I work for massage Envy. You would not envy it if you knew they only wash the blankets on the table ONCE A WEEK! If that! HOW NASTY! I won't be there long!

These people are not college grads. 9 months of training. People want big bucks, but don't want to get an education. Anybody can be a massage therapist. They want $50 an hour, go to college and earn a degree. Nobody is making them work there.

I am an LMT & I make minimum $50K a year at Massage Envy in far northwest Illinois. Our clinic is very professional, we are religious about health intake/history & accurate soap notes. Our wonderful clients include health professionals. My coworkers and I are very experienced in a wide range of modalities including neuromuscular, myofascial, deep tissue, trigger point, pnf, sports, & rehab-injury massage, prenatal, thai, reiki, cranio sacral, swedish integrative, and more. No two clients are alike & we don't do "cookie cutter cut rate" massage. Our owners respect our limits and are supportive. The person who thinks anybody can be a masage therapist is uninformed. Our training is medical, our services are covered by most insurance companies with an m.d.'s prescription. If you think it's so easy I suggest you learn 644 muscles, their origins, insertions, actions, protagonists, antagonists, & ennervations. Oh, & they're all in Latin. In addition to the rest of what we learn, anatomy & physiology, disease pathologies, business/ethics, & much more. Then do clinical externship, go thru the FBI & state police backround checks, pass a very difficult & long national certification test, get your professional affiliation in ABMP or AMTA (without which you cant get hired). And pay around $14,000 in student loans to do it. AND then do 48 hours of acccredited continuing education every 2 years. I've worked in other places. And years ago I worked in a hospital physical therapy dept. I'm happy working at Massage Envy. There may be some locationsin the franchise that re not up to the same standard. But I know many are.

You unfortunately appear to be more concerned about being terminated by ME then you are about having your license revoked or the state placing you on probation by disregarding your personl responsibility in your client's files and their health from a right to a sterile environment. Me pays you for your services, those clients aren't their customers, they are yours as well as your legal responsibilty for their welfare. It's your liability insurance & licence on the line. You and you alone are held liable by the customer and the state , when your the one who puts your hands on them and whom they are trusting to be responsible. If you knowingly have a client under a blanket that hasn't been washed in a week! Shame on you , have integrity and a back bone ... Blaming others is a pitiful excuse, waiting to quit and then give a piece of u to them? proves what? You have had no regards for your own client's well being.
