For years, the people of Atmore have fought off the urban sprawl of walmart and Suburbs and yuppie snobbery to keep our Mayberry the place it is! But have you looked at the land cleared infront of the new Casino. What can we as citizins do to ensure that the suburban nightmare does not happen here too!

Isn't it nice that all the potential tax dollars go to places like Pensacola instead, because the citizens of "Mayberry" don't have a decent place to shop. Atmore doesn't have decent paying jobs, I drive 100 miles roundtrip for my own job. You guys should check out the guestbook of www.atmoreadvance.com and see how it's citizens really feel.

Advancement will just be a bunch of yankee snobbs looking down at locals while practicing thier new york none chauntness. Atmmoreadvance obviously speaks for people who want Atmore to turn into the kind of corprete mess everywhere else does, but if your idea of a decent paying job is Walmart, well- "you get a line, I'll get a pole!" and I'll make do on my own without that kind of crap. A few fast food restraunts are okay, but that corprete crap is draining to anyone who has a soul.
What did people do before casinos and walmart and being dependant upon low paying crap. If you drive 100 miles, maybe you should look for a new job. My husband runs a fruit stand, and my son works at the gas station. We get along alright, and we live right here.

I say to hell with the damn suburbs. I'm only 15 but I like living in the country. People who don't like it should move, instead of expecting the entire area to change. If you want the city, move to the city. I don't want Atmore or Walnut to be a bunch of neo con suburbs like Pace. Pace is a wierd nightmare. You could live your whole life there and not know your nieghbors two doors down, or the name of anyone in town. THere is no town. Just transplanted snobs, tanning salons, head to toe spaws, gyms and gas stations. It's awful! Is that what we want!
OOOOH HOme Depot! OOOOH
Get over it. Kepp the pride! Don't subdivide!
If the original creeks could see what they're grand children are doing... well, what more do I have to say?

I believe that this is just plain WRONG. Why would anyone want Atmore to blow up into something like Pensacola. There is no reason to have two crappy places right next to each other.

Thats right. While everyone wants to keep the small town feel, who is helping with local paying jobs? Hmmmm so far, the casino with the construction jobs is pretty good. Swift layoff? Masland layoff? Well, with out the casino, guess you might have to go work at the dollar store. Everyone wants to complain about Walmart. And yeah, it does make Atmore lose a little luster. I mean with the empty businesses, who couldnt love that. All the housing foreclosures, who needs a house. Something has to change. About 90% who gripe about Walmart certainly are seen there in Bay Minnette on just about any weekend. Why not leave the tax benefits to help ourselves.....As far as the casino, who cares. If you dont gamble, dont go. Im glad to see progress. Someone has to bump up our profile.

We can farm and that is mny job and I am proud of it. You don't have to be defeated by working under the awful floresant light or corprete America, that light which knows no humanity, no instinct, no concept of love or home or fmaily or integrity, or any of the qualities which made America great. The light, dear friend, the awful all night of glaring, corprete America, knows only money, and what people it does trap, it drains and works to the bones and on through the bleached and burnt out soul. That is America now, the heartland, defeated by the immideate wants, the epidermanl fixsation on instant gradification, sought dully with dull minds by those reduced to beast of burden, who in the end achieve nothing, but the sloven, deluted stamp of NORMAL, united by thier defeat.

As a tribal member I am glad something is happening there. I am also thankful my husband got me out of 'Mayberry'! I say right on PCI and whomever is helping in the efforts to bring that crummy little town up to the 20th century. I believe my children deserve better opportunities than I did and growing up in Atmore is not an option for my husband and I to give them. It is just so awful that someone is actually trying to bring in business that will provide jobs for the people in that poor little town.<eye roll> How dare they? Just make sure all of you complaining on here aren't the first in line with job applications in your hand when they open!! While everyone else is closing or laying people off!
Be sure to get together with all the other dead heads and protest or whatever, maybe for your sake years from now when tumble weeds are blowing down the streets, all the businesses are closed & the hand full of you left are sitting there with your fingers up you A$$ looking at each other with nothing to do, you can finally say 'welp we finally dun it'!

The casino will start out ok until the trash that works there ruins it like they did hardees and mc donalds, then drugs will be delt there, the crime will begin to get heavy because desparate people throwing their money away in those machines because the casino lies and says they give away 150 million a month.....Ive got news for you, if the casino was giving away 150 million dollars a month than why are so many still poor in atmore. Dont fall prey to casino lies of big giveaways, giving away the money is not how they pay the bills, for every dollar that the casino brings in, it gives away 1 cent....And also, to give away 150 million a month, they must bring in 300 million a month....do you really think there are that many millionaires sitting in that casino ? Dont be fools.....This casino is for the owners wealth and as far as the indians, they will continue to stay poor.

keep the pride! Don't sub-divide.
This whole keeping up with the Joneses thing is what made this the second great drepression. We can over come. Maybe Obama could make it where folks could farm again!

Whatever!!! Atmore, what a joke! Mayberry, are you serious? There is nothing in Atmore, just where all most of our bad prisoners go in south Alabama. The only ones that want to keep the small town feel are the farmers in the area who already make TONS of money and the land is just handed down from generation to generation. I've lived in Mobile all my life and the entire stretch from Mobile to almost Birmingham is an absolute BORE!!!! If you don't like the casino, don't go. It's not like it takes up miles and miles, it is just off the exit. Most of you are just mad that the revenues won't be going to you. It isn't like they had much of an attraction before, the hotel and Creek Indian restaurant that is old as dirt. Anytime anything knew happens in the "Mayberry" parts of Alabama you all freak out! It is 2009, there is no Mayberry--it was sold long ago for huge profits to build numerous subdivisions and shopping malls and Andy retired away in the hills.

If you don't want advancement and new life and tourism than you should move to the Amish country. And drugs, the big bad casino will spur drug use? Get real, most of your children are drug heads anyway and you refuse to realize it as you sit in church on Sunday preaching about how happy you are to be farming while your good ole' farms are gov't subsidized and you get grants because "you just couldn't make production" again, for year after year after year but you still seem to be able to get that new F-250 with the jacked up suspension and chrome package...without a touch of dirt on it, but yet have a farmers tag.

Most of you are such hypocrites, just like Jason said, most who are so against walmart are certainly seen there as I'm sure most will be seen at the casino. I can't imagine the lure of that new red light could keep even the most prehistoric country boy away

Finally, a forum where I can express my opionion and it might be read. Last week I expressed an opionion on the local newspaper's web site. The Atmore Advance, and got a polite email in return that stated they were supporting the growth that th casino is generating. My comment was as followers: The Porch Creek Indians, as they are known locally, ordered carpet from a local carpet factory, in Atmore, and because they could get it cheaper elsewhere they did not buy the carpet. Now what does that say for PCI. What are they doing to support the community? The carpet factory did have a lay off and this order would possibly have prevented more lay offs. It would certainly have provided more work for the workers who are still working.

I agree with Brandielou, its alright when you all take from the goverment year after year for crop you proably new wasnt going to grow anyway, but when individuals take their own hard earned money to Creek Casino its a problem, why dont you donate some of your crappy crop money to me so that I can to live in a brick home and drive nice cars and sip on lemonade on my poarch with miles of land with no end to the eye and I to can say its a waist.
Oh yeah did you know that a lady from Georgia won over 600,000 dollars this month if you all wasnt sitting their with your crappy crop money up your a$$ you could have been the one won and the money could have been but back into escambia county.

Why do you care? If you don't like it- don't come to Atmore and go to the casino and don't think about it. I honestly don't think it's anybody's business what goes on out there if you don't live in or around Atmore. You might as well get over it because it's here to stay!!! STAY IN PENSACOLA/MILTON/WHEREVER YOU ARE FROM!!!!!!!!!! Florida has the lottery.... what does Alabama have? This is opening doors to many people and is employing many.If anything the casino will help Atmore by bringing in Revenue. And drugs???? Drugs are going to be everywhere no matter what! Jason, you seriously don't know what you're talking about! Do you sign the pay-out checks??? No- I didn't think so! I know how much money comes in and out of there and you don't know anything! I suggest you get your crap straight and then try to post a comment about something you know about.

It's just sad... It could be such a cool town, but people just don't give a damn. They love to watch movies about small towns, and say, "oh, yeah, that's how I grew Up, blah blah blah... " but they don't actually want to get up at 7 o'clock and mke it work, run a hardware store, run a gas station, teach thier children that bills paid, good health and food on the table is enough, and that people, God, nature and our realtionships are really all we've got.
They want THINGS! They want the same THINGS that Americans can't afford that have landed them in a depression.
Burn White Trash Burn! Until maybe you learn.

I belive Atmore will be the next Great City. I belive as It grows the attitude of people will change; they will be calmer ; especailly Black people. The suburban attitude as they see it growing will change the people of the 21st century
I belive Atmore is the best place to raise a family and start over ; It needs more places like the new Casino ; to get Known to people seeking to get out of places like New york or Philadelphia
