Utica fire department food costs

stew? and thats ok with you?? i realize the firemen are on duty for 24 hrs and need to eat. but they absolutley shouldnt be able to enjoy their meals. beef stew is something you can enjoy on your days off... when you are on duty make something less palletable. the thought of the firemen sitting around at dinner with beef stew is appauling. this needs to stop ASAP. that sort of thing is ok in big cities like NY or Boston. but this is utica. Its time the people speak up and put an end to this practice.

These men are there to respond to emergencies not to sit down for nice meals. Somebody needs to call this to the attention of the mayor and this needs to stop. Party is over boys. They even have a grill in each firehouse!!! Imagine that! cooking hamburgers and hotdogs at the fire station. Kamekazee can you back me up here?

This is by far one of the dumbest comments on this post. I knew it would become a fire department bashing fest. So what you are saying is the firemen should not be able to "enjoy" their meals??? How rediculous is that? Maybe they shouldnt eat at all. Just dont eat anything for 24 hours. That will show them rotten bastards! How dare they eat ANYTHING! What balls! BEEF STEW! You are right! As long as the firemen pay for their food themselves, and not out of my tax dollars, I can care less what they cook and eat while they work.
But... You would think with Mayor Bloomberg and his obesity nonsense in NYC, it's only a matter of time before we demand our public servants to be in-shape.
Why should we have to pay top dollar salaries for fat out-of-shape cops and firemen? I don't care how big their balls are when they waddle not walk and can't run, they're still a liability.

im sure im not the only one that is appauled by firemen preparing a nice home cooked meal and sitting down at a dinner table while on the taxpayers clock. this type of setting should not be provided for them. kamekazee please offer your opinion on this matter. you reportedly are retired UFD. dont you think we should ban this practice from todays firefighters? Another thing I though it was sour grapes joking around about their putting "We go above and beyond the call of duty" on our firetrucks. When I saw it I tried to take a picture to post on topix and the fat slob in the SUV started getting all mouthy and colicky but I got it later in the day it will be posted up as soon as topix clears the pic for you all to see I was amazed it wasn't some joke or rumor! Who drives around in vehicles labeling THEMSELVES the "heroes"? Only in oootica people. Only in oootica!

The men are on 24 hour shifts, so they must eat while on duty. To deny them eating priviledeges is absurd. However I feel no overweight personnel should be promoted. Physicals and weight control should be administered yearly, and any continually overweight personnel should be terminated.

When a firefighter is grossly overweight they are high risk for heart attack and stroke, when this misfortune happens the taxpayers have to pay the bills and this firefigter and his family become a ward of the people and they have to pay for his overweight and personal neglect of his body for the remainder of his life. When a firefighter smokes and is overweight it is even a higher risk for heart attack and stroke. These jobs are very sought after because of the high pay and lucrative benefits and the taxpayer should not have to pay fat slobs that are high risk to perform a very important job. Either get in shape or hit the bricks, we do not need fat firefighters. Check the statistics for all the smart asses that disagree.
