Who's gonna have a better football team this year? Can PPHS make it to states again?

If PPHS was to be playing in AA, then they may have a chance at playing for the state. But they are now in AAA , I think they will be lucky to have a .500 season for a few years. Not that they are bad but they are going to be playing against teams that have a bigger population to pull talent from. But I will be there to watch them play. And will go watch many other schools in the area play as well.

This is the ultimate cop out...did Safford write this or another coach ? They always use this excuse about better talent to pick from. That is b.s. The only thing better is coaching. A great coach can give anyone the tools to be successful. I am tired of these idiots always saying the Point kids are not good enough....the coaches over the years have not been good enough. No matter what the coach is responsible for preparing his players. You can hide your lack of coaching skills by playing mediocre teams in AA, but you can't hide at the next level. With all of your blaming the kids philosophy, that Safford used religiously,is just a coverup of the Coaches lack of abilities. Knute Rockne took a bunch of underachievers and made them great. It is all about the Coaching stupid !

yes coaching is extremely important.. But to say population of the school doesn't have have anything to do with it is just stupid.. So do you think if nick Saban went to coach at Hannah they would be dominate? Idts

Apparently, you are an idiot! Look at Bridgeport ... less students than Point Pleasant had last year and made it to the semi-finals and gave GW a great game even though they had the best runningback in the state.

Good coaching ... and a hardwork ethic is what makes a great football team!

Look at Wayne ... got beat by Point Pleasant last year and from that moment on used that lost as motivation to hit the weight room everyday. Hell, they were even in the weight room on Thanksgiving! Same can't be said for Point and look at how the championship game turned out ... think the results speak for themselves!

Good coaching helps but hard work spent in the weight room is invaluable! Only problem is you can't force someone to hit the weight room! The only real advantage the bigger schools have is that they have more students with more desire to win a championship which translates to more players who are willing to go the extra mile!

The talent has always been at Point Pleasant ... the only problem is getting everyone on the team to workout all year long, every year till graduation! There's always a hand full of players that will do this but it takes a team effort in the weight room to be a champ! If Point can do the above ... they will win a state championship ... even in AAA!

I never said anything about the quality of players. I said the bigger schools just have more to choose from... I know Point has good players but if one goes down, do they have depth of 2or 3 players deep to fill in...when you have a kid playing both sides of the ball it will be hard for him to compete as well as the kid that only plays one side of the ball.. If you dont think so just look how Cabell Midland did last year compared to previous years.. They put on a great thing last year to get all they could to come out and play. Even if they never had... Now their players don't play the whole game. They have depth at all positions. Just doing that for one season and they made a good run in the playoffs.. So I never said anything about how good the players are. Winfeild went AAA and they struggled with the bigger schools that has more talent to choose from. Notice I didn't say anything about bigger or better players.. But regardless I will be their cheering them on

If a player don't want to hit the weights then it's the coaches job to take care of the problem...if the players don't hit the weights out Wayne, then coach Tommy Harmon will not let them play. The reason Wayne has good players year after year is cause coach Harmon is involved with the little leage football program. He tells them if they play hard now they will play on his team later..I was at the state championship game last year and point got beat on both sides of the ball and coaching....maybe point needs to put on a summer camp for the little league and any other small kid who wants to play... Do this every year and get more kids interested at a early age, then maybe they will have more kids to show up to play year after year

they took the youth football from tri state which wayne plays in. now these kids wont know what competition is like when they get to jr high they will only have played each other. they need to be out there competing against these kids they will have to face when it counts.

There was youth football (ages 6-12) for the last 15-20 years that competed with Wayne and different teams in the Tri-State area, but not any longer...just the local school league that only plays each other.

once again that is where the lack of dedication comes into play. travel for competition that is the nature of the game.

It's not all about lifting weights...if the coach doesn't know certain things about the x's and o's of football and doesn't know proper techniques then how the hell can he teach them ? I guarantee you if Nick Saban went to Hannan they would kick ass......just from the real football knowledge. I can tell most of you in Point are satisfied with mediocrity and think your program is ok and most of you know nothing about football x's and o's. If you did you would see it is pointless to run the ball all the time with 8 or more men in the box. You must exploit the weaknesses. Safford was the easiest coach I ever seen to read. Yeah these so called coaches would always run to the strength of the defense. These are amateurs, nothing more than biddy league level knowledge and you would think after all those years they would gain some knowledge. I can tell most of you in Point don't really understand the game because one has continuiously been played on you.

it's WV high school football, what do you expect? even the best coaches in this state run the ball all the time. shoot we did a good job of being balanced last year. down the stretch I dare say we were more of a throwing team. never thought I'd say that.

Darst has brought some winning back into this program, let's support them!
