I don't know if the seatbelt would have made a difference against a utility pole, but it did save the younger girl at the time. I'm sure we all hope she recovers, it wasn't HER fault.

By the way, there is not such thing as a "Chrysler CV". "CV" is police report speak for a convertible. More than likely a LeBaron. Just an fyi.

Seatbelts are there for a reason...Thank the parents for this one. Probably don't wear their seatbelts either.

The vast majority of adult drivers have the misconception that because they are holding on to the steering wheel that they won't be shaken loose from their position in the car. What they fail to take into consideration is the amount of extreme force that is exerted during an accident of this nature. Within micro-seconds the driver along with anyone else not buckled in is tossed around like fruit salad and usually out of the vehicle. My brother-in-law is a big strapping 6'4" carpenter and his work van slid off a wet road into a ditch which was a relatively minor type accident yet he ended up on the dash board on the passengers side of the van with the window popped out. Had the vehicle gone any further he would have exited the front of the van through the windshield opening and more than likely run over by his own vehicle. He still refuses to wear a seat belt when he's driving! Granted Seatbelts may not always save your life in some accidents, but your chances of survival are 1,000 times greater with them on than not!

Seatbelts are designed to keep occupants INSIDE the vehicle. Seatbelts DO NOT prevent you from crushing your skull striking a pole at a high rate of speed. If the car struck the pole on the passenger side, the girl Wearing the seatbelt would have been killed.

At how selfish everyone is being, we all at times speed, or changed lanes recklessly and sacrificed our own and others safety for something we thought to be a priority. Stop shunning this girl, and pray and be thankful no one else got injuried and that one life was saved.

why am i not suprised that i come on here and find an abundance of hate comments about a girl that you people don't even know!!!! well i knew the girl...she was my brother's girlfriend...so she wasn't wearing her seatbelt...she made a mistake...as it happens the accident occurred not to far from her house...but let me guess...all you people are saints when you drive, right? you ALWAYS wear your seatbelts...you NEVER make moves without signaling...oh and the biggie...i'm sure you NEVER drive while talking on a cell phone...oh wait...i forgot speeding..i'm sure you've all NEVER sped a day in your lives also...well if you claim all that...then your all full of crap...cuz we're all guilty of it...it's not like she was drinking and driving...which i'm sure some of you have done...this was just a horrible, unfortunate accident that happened to a very sweet girl that was never one of those bad girls that we all know so well...well she wasn't one of them...but that still doesn't stop you vultures from coming on here and passing judgement on a girl that you don't even know...i just pray that her family doesn't see these horrible comments...imagine if you were in this position...would you still be saying such hurtful comments!!!

don't any of you people have anything better to do than sit here and say that she is dumb for not wearing her seatbelt, yea maybe she should have but it was a mistake. only one other person that commented this knows her nobody else, so how can you say bad things about her she was so nice. i knew her since the day i was born. everyone on here that wants to say bad things about a girl who is now gone isn't too right in the head. so i suggest that you stop saying the things yous are saying because you didnt know her at all u just want to post ur comments to make you look like u know stuff but u really dontknow nothing

Monica is part of a very large family, my family. Our family has felt much heartacheover the years with the loss of many young people. Now along with her death and Melissa's condition we as a family are again forced to live and deal with the sadness.
To all of you that would rather judge a young person - may you never feel the heartache we as a family are feeling.
For those who pray for us thank-you!

My deepest sympathy to all of Monica's family and friends. I taught Monica in high school and she was a truly wonderful young woman. For those of you making hurtful comments, you should be ashamed! Now is the time to show love NOT hate for those who are grieving. God bless Monica, Melissa, and her family and friends.
