You know nothing about our situation, yet you want to tell me what to do. And I was right, you aren't man enough to apologize for crude and tasteless remarks. I'm not going to apologize to you, dumbass. You are the one that responded to my first post with offenses. I guess you atheist feelings got hurt. And I am actually beginning to think that you are the one with the mental disability. And let me guess: you became an Atheist when your wife became handicapped because you were "angry at God" and couldn't believe in a God that would allow that? If so, you are weak minded.

I suggest to those being critical, see the display before judging. Let the display rest on its own merit. It looks like it is being moved about 150 ft. from its original place along Broad. The park mentioned is an area directly east of the front of the building. Vandalism has always been a concern, they have always fixed and/or replaced damaged or missing pieces. This has been a Holiday fixture since I can remember. I commend them for the display.

Thank you State Auto for this wonderful display freely given to us all over the years.
I remembervividly my first time seeing it while I was an out of town guest when I was 12 yrs old. It was a BITTERLY cold night, but my family was determined to show us this beautiful display. How AWESOME it was! I have since then made it my personal mission to make sure my kids and now my grandkids have the priviledge of enjoying this same beautiful experience.
I can't wait to see it again with the updates! I think the cell phone tour addition will be wonderful too. Thanks again and God Bless. For the skeptics- don't worry nobody will EVER be able to take CHRIST out of CHRISTMAS.

Yes, your statement was totally out-of-bounds, even if it had been directed at a healthy woman. As for the main topic of the Nativity display, maybe because of this news story (which is because of the move), some folks who didn't grow up here may finally be able to find out about the display, and make a special trip downtown just to see it.

A Family Tradition

Born and Raised in Columbus spending a day downtown and an evening at State Auto for the Nativity scene. When people say what's left to do downtown at Christmas I still have the pleasure of saying The Nativity scene at State Auto Insurance. It's Great. I have already went by to see the new site. Looks great already. They have plenty of parking and you can still see the Manger from Broad Street. I Can't wait until the lighting. Who ever came up with placing it in it's new location My hat is off to you and those putting the display together. a family tradition in Columbus

I don't think it sounds like that at all. Adding to the experience by actually being able to walk through the display sounds like something we can actually make into a family outing. Why be so harsh when you haven't seen the change. I'm sure it is going to be a wonderful display that will begin a new tradition...and what's wrong with that? Whoa wrote: Who are they kidding?? Sounds like they received enormous pressure to greatly diminish the religious expression of the Nativity scene by getting it off of Broad St. so it is not easily seen? Shame on State Auto Insurance for being such weaklings! I guess State Auto thinks that appeasing the atheists is much more important these days. State Auto excuse is so they can "add...other Christmas" decorations? That is a Bunch of baloney. The Nativy is what Made The Display so interesting. We can all visit too much plain old glittery Christmas decorations everywhere else.

I read several other posts before I got to this one, but FINALLY someone with a positive view on what State Auto is trying to do. People like to judge things before they have the facts and it ridiculas! Thank you Jeff! I couldn't agree with you more! Jeff wrote: I think people are reading too much into this. They're saying that they're adding to the decorations on the entire building, so I would guess that there are still going to be plenty of decorations facing Broad. State Auto owns a nice bit of property on the side of their building where it appears they'll be setting up, which will give them much more space for the display. Unlike the reactionaries who are assuming that this is all some plan to kill the display, what I got out of this story is that State Auto is planning on expanding the display, and given the lack of space available on Broad, they decided to use more of their property. I think that this could turn out very well.

As for the reason so they can add more decorations, what a joke....last year they had the same lights up as this year and the Nativity scene still looked amazing right in front. Next year, it probably won't be up at all.

I am an employee of State Auto who is in favor of the nativity change. The Nativity has been placed in the historic Pein Park to make the setup more personable and intimate. There is added security, included to the security division, from the office personel who sign up to be greeters in order to make sure that nothing is damaged and all question might be answered. We also have a crew which works on the nativity year round to make sure that anything from wind, snow, tree damage, people damage. <There was a guy whom jumped on the wall last year and stole a goose while running down Broad Street. Security stopped and recovered the goose.> So yes, it has happened..:) State Auto has also placed a lot of monies into the project which includes extra electric to make it feasible to make such an elaborate switch. The theory was not based on we want to leave Christianity behind, if so we would not have a 50 ft. billboard directly on Broad Street which states Merry Christmas with shadow figures of the wisemans journey. We would like to think that we hold tight to our belief system back to the time when Robert Pein started the nativities journey to where it is now. The nativity is still there for everyoen to have an upclose shot of the nativity in full, but now more intimate. Everyone is welcome and urged to come and visit the nativity located at 518 East Broad Street. You can't miss the signs and it as beautiful as it was year to year until now. Any questions you can find out information on State Autos Website at this quick link: http://www.stateauto.com/about/page.aspx...

I hope that all of the nay-sayers are ok with eating a bit of crow. I haven't been into the display yet, but, from the road, the display looks wonderful. I hope it looks as good up close as it does from the road. Good job State Auto!
