If anyone knows the whole story in this situation. The boy that died drown on his own. The suspect did not even killed him. That was why they charged him with felony murder and not first degree or capital murder. They also charged him with possesion of a handgun and never found the gun because there was no gun. The police set him up because they did not want to have an open case. Plus the suspect was a great student and excellent football player who the whole community respected and loved and still do. And no he was not a thug just because he's black. People need to know the facts before they judge something or somebody. If the case would have gone to trial people like ya'll would have gave him life and ya'll would have took another man's life away just like how that man lost he's. Now what does that solve. Nothing! Ya'll would be taking a man's life worse than his situation.

I think that he was actually given too much time. As mentioned in previous comments, Ivory drowned. The problem is that the situation got out of control. Their was only a fight, with no intention to kill. Any of us could have been in Kevins position. You dont even know the details of who or what caused the fight. Before you make such negative judgements you should review all of the facts. I have alot of respect for Kevin Campfield, and hope that he is able to get less time.
Thank you

Thank you for speaking up and not having a one-sided mind like most of these people. Kevin is a good young man who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But there will be an appeal.

First let me say I pray for Ivory and his family. Kevin was a bright spot for me as long as i coached him. He made us all laugh all the timea s well as being one heckuva player. He was a kid always looking for attention and you could see that he wanted someone to take him under his wing. His troubles all started when he left his first high school (sophomore year) of the 4 or 5 he attended. If he had a better role model at home, he wouldn't be in this situation. I pray for him and miss him very much. But I also feel saddened by the situation for both sides. Kevin always had a problem of stealing and bullying other kids, which I talked to him numerous times about. I hope that one day, when he gets out, he turns his life around for the better.

Sounds like just another "run of the mill" felony murder case to me...last I heard in NJ if you kill someone during the commission of a crime then that is felony murder. Give him life or give him the option of asking for his own death penalty. It is the most humane thing to do since after 15 years (or 85% of that time) he will never be able to be "re-integrated" back into society...

The only "education" he will get in prison will give him a "jail-house PhD" in how to rob and murder by the time he is released anyway.
He will be an even bigger peril to society by then.
Society has failed these people...if the prisons continue to swell with people that have to steal and kill to survive then the system is broken.

"Redistribute" the wealth and make the playing field more level and people like Campfield won't have to steal and kill to survive...(but until the system is revised)...then it should be a crime that when it is committed should be punished by forfeiting your own life.

You may now burn me down...

First I wanna say thank you to all of those who stood up in Kevin's defense. You have actually taken the situation into consideration. Second I wanna say that no one knows exactly what happened but Kevin, Ivory, and God. I know that I've seen posted in the paper and heard on the news a million different versions of the story. Everyone is so quick to make assumptions and pass judgment without knowing the facts or having put themselves in both parties shoes. Who are u or I to pass judgment on any man or try and determine the fate of another? I never asked Kevin what happened because quite frankly I don't wanna know. I explained to Kevin that with God being the ultimate judge, whether a judge says Kevin is guilty or innocent, Kevin is paying for the lifestyle he chose to lead. I do know that Ivory drowned on his own. Am I saying that Kevin is completely innocent? No. I am saying that Kevin should pay for the crime he committed and only that. I just want people to realize that both of these young men are someone's child and their views may be different if the tables were turned. I feel that it was an unfortunate turn of events and two lives were in the balance. One lost his life and one life will never be the same. It is a shame that we keep losing lives to the streets. I would also like to point out that everyone says what is this world coming to when a man is sentenced to 15 years for a crime that wasn't committed. I'm saying what is this world coming to that we have lost faith in each other. It IS still possible for a man to commit a crime, learn from it and turn his life around. It IS possible for a man to take another's life and truly be remorseful and deserve a second chance. Stop writing everyone off and be a little more compassionate because who knows where you could be. I feel that for every crime committed, we are all just as responsible as the person who committed it. Have we forgotten, we ARE our brother's keeper!! It takes a village to raise a child so for every child gone bad, someone wasn't doing their job. There is no such thing as perfect parents so we all need to fill in the gaps. DO ME A FAVOR... for every child you see who needs a positive role model, be there. Selah (Meditate on this) To Kevin, I love you and I'm sorry I haven't been there like I promised. To Ivory's family, I'm sorry for your lost and I pray that you can forgive because an unforgiving heart is the most dangerous heart condition a person can have...

I'm glad somebody recoginized Kevin for what he is and always was, a theft, a bully, and now a murderer.
Yes, Kevin may have lacked some guidance, but he was raised by his grandparents. And while some describe him as such a great kid and great student, others might describe him as troubled.
How great of a student could Kevin have been if he had to attend 5 different high schools? Do you realized he was getting kicked out?
Also while he was very skilled on the football field he also was a good theft.
It's funny how some paint this model citzen out of such a menace.
While some mention that Kevin had no one to look up to, other may disagree. Kevin had coaches that loved him grandparents, even a big sister to look up too. She was raised in the same situation as him and she followed a different path. Kevin had the same oppurtunities as her. He chose a different journey.

You say that Ivory drown on his own as if chose to be placed in the pond/swamp behind sassafrass. After being knocked unconious he was drag by Campfield into the pond/swap and left for dead.
You mentioned that it is important to know the facts, well the autosy provided the following fact: He suffered multiple blunt force injuries to his head, which Dr. Hydow Park determined to be a contributing cause of death".

So the facts are that Kevin played a major role in Ivory's death. You don't drag someone into a pond/swap for them to take a swim or a dip.

Growing up with him, I kno how much of a great person my brother is. He has a great mind, everybody knows him very well, He's a very good football player, and yes he did have alot going for himself... Some people are quick to judge him because Ivory lost his life during the whole situation. It was a fight and like a couple people said anybody could have been in Kevin's situation. I also think my brother was sentenced to an overly amount of time. He was far from a thug. What give's you people the right to judge, when in all reality only god can judge him. That is the only person my brother has to answer to. I think alot of you people need to kno the full story before you are quick to judge and discriminate. I love you Kevin!!!

Yes, anyone could have been in his shoes. Yes, anyone could have chose to rob another person, and yes anyone could have beat someone so severly that it would be a contributing factor to that person's death. And Yes, someone who makes these decisions should not only answer to God, but also to the judicial system.

I don't give a damn if kevin was Oprah, if she robs and kills someone then her butt needs to go to jail too.

If you do the crime, then you must pay the crime. It's as simply as that.

First of all, you don't know me or my family personally. You don't know anything about the Campfield's only from what you have heard. Please don't put my name and business in your mouth because you dont know nothing. My brother will be okay you just worry about your family like I'm doing. Yeah u have read the information in the papers that's great I'm glad you read, but me having a journalism degree you shouldn't just listen to the media. They sometimes tend to flip flop things. I own several businesses now and my brother Kevin Campfield will be wealthy and secure from the time he gets home which is not that much longer. When people say he won't have a fair chance in society when he gets out, that's untrue because as long as he has the love and support from his family he will fine. But, thanks for your concern.
