I am his cousin, and this whole thing was suspicious. They never contacted the family. The family was only notified because Michaels cell mate called the house and asked what happeded to him because the officers came to the cell and removed all of his things. The officers would not tell him anything. Then when his mother called the prison, they bluntly told her, your son is dead. The officers in the jail have been incredibly rude and uncooperative with the family. This was friday afternoon. His records state he died Friday at 9:41 am,(this information was gathered from Maria the in inmate services) but now the news stories on TV say he died this morning....none of these stories match, something is very wrong. The family was told they wouldnt get any information until Tuesday, due to the holiday.
If in fact Michael died in the hopsitol like they say, why wasnt the family notified immediatly, so they could see him. They say they didnt have any emergency contacts for him, even if that was the case, they could have checked his visitation log.
We beleive he was taken out of his cell by wheelchair, from what his cell mate said, and then taken somewhere and left unattended.
We beleive this is a case of inhumane neglect.

what i want to know , is why no one came to mike,s cell after he pushed the sick call button , not only once, but several times, even had to call out to another inmate,to push his sick call button, still no deputy came to his cell... even pounding on the door and yelling, still no deputy came to his cell!!! other inmates said it was hours later deputy,s open up mike,s cell door . mike fought for his lifefor several hours.there is something very wrong ! mike was also denied his medication , that is what he told his son in the visting room.

i truely believe that the facility health administrator is the party that is responsible for not responding. in the family @ friends hand book it states that the inmate will be seen immediatly if the situation is serious in nature as to life threatening, if so then why? then at 2:45 am was his 1st request denied. at 9:00 or seven hours later mike was finally tended to.this is cruel and evilly insane to let any human suffer as this man did?here is the phone # for all complaints 602-542-3148. now our whole family is suffering.please keep our family in prayer. your broter in christ jesus.

The officers there are the worst. They will actually take you into cells and beat you up if you don't act right. The officers are the rudest ever. They treat everyone like they are the scum of the earth. The people that work behind the counter I swear have no education and they move like they are snails. They refuse to answer questions and are just plain rude to you. That place is so illegal it is insane. They will steal your money that your family leaves on your books. If you can't prove it there is nothing you can do. Santa Rita is very corrupt. Should be shut down completly. And the sheriffs in there should not be allowed to wear the badge ever again.

Being a criminal now is better than it's every been in human history. Yet now people whine and complain that they aren't treated well enough. Wahhhhhhhhh! I broke the law and had to be punished! Grow up pussies! you should just be glad you weren't executed or made to work hard labor, or better yet killed by a vigilante mob like in the old days. I'm not saying it's fair, but this is is life people. Every prisoner is not Cool Hand Luke or the guy in Shawshank Redemption. These are CRIMINALS, and yes people in my own family have gone to jail and they deserved every consequence they paid for their stupidity. The point is that the experience is UNPLEASANT so that you learn a LESSON . Since criminals don't seem to grasp that criminal activity is wrong and you shouldn't do it, the same way the rest of us normal people do, they have to be taught a lesson like a dog through negative reinforcement (ie. prison). Corruption is everywhere in this world. Do like I do, and maybe if you don't end up in jail in the first place you won't have to deal with the corruption of the jail system.

You could be up there just visiting and they will treat you like a criminal. Cops in Dublin don't even like going there. Ask any of them.

I am very sorry for your loss, within the past month I have heard of over 5 deaths at santa rita, my fiance is currently serving, everyday I worry, not only are inmates not getting the medical care they need, they are dying because of it, and then you have the worry of other inmates attacking and taking their lives, 2 of the five men were lost to violence from another inmate. Your family is not the first and will not be the last, that something like this has happened, a few weeks back a young man died, the family was not notified, but his brother found out through other inmates. I pray for all the men and women at santa rita, may god keep them safe! Santa Rita is concidered one of the worst county jails, the most strict and the most lacking! 90 percent of the techs, receptionists, deputies are extremely rude, I have even myself gotten into an argument with a tech because of the treatment she gave me just for wanting to put money down on my fiance's books and threatened to press the issue of harrassment on a deputy! Things like this have to stop! Regardless why anyone is in there, they are people to and desserve the same kind of treatment as everyone else! I will pray for you and yours may the lord keep you safe in his embrace

One very serious point is getting lost due to the horrible conditions and treatment at santa rita jail..... i believe that every person who does any amount of time, comes out of there with more issues than they went in with. More anger, more resentment, more DENIAL . I know when my boyfriend has been released he (he has been in and out for the past 12 years) he seems more withdrawn, more scandalous, more enraged. He most definetley doesn't seem to learn a damn thing or make any effort at all to stay out of there. When you break the law, jails and prisons are supposed to be punishing you for the crime you were found guilty of commiting. It's suppose to be that they are redeeming them selves for the crime committed, by serving their sentence and complying with all conditions for there probation and or parole when they are released. But all thats happening is they come out angry and ready to get even.
A year ago my boyfriend was in custody seving a 60 day sentence and he got real sick. A few days before he got arrested he had been to see a doctor for adominal pain and bleeding rectaly. The doctor treated him released him with insturction on hoe to care for the ailments and antibiotics. When he was sentenced he had a lawyer, but his lawyer was unable to appear on the court date thast was schedualed so he told me to stand up when his case was called and tell the judge that he was being represented by an attorney and that he needed to come back on a certain date and that we needed a medical request to see the doctor once he was in population so he could continue medical treatment. The judge approved the request and ABSOLUTLEY nothing came of it. Meanwhile my boyfriend got sicker and sicker until he started bleeding profusley out of his mouth. Even then his cell mates had to raise holy hell to get the guard to do anything about him seeing the doctor. The doctor said (when he finally saw my boyfriend 5 hours later) that if he had gotten to him any later than he did he would have probably died!
SOME SYSTEM......... I AM SO VERY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS

The entire prison system is a business. The feds can make up any rules they want. It sickens me to think that my husband is in jail for driving with a suspended license, while a drug dealer got off easier than him and is out here poisoning the streets. Life isn't fair, we have to take responisiblity for our actions, but we are all entitled to be treated with dignity and respect. It's not easy to be a prison guard, police officer, and much less to be an inmate, most of us have families who need us, especially if it's a spouse. My husband is not a criminal for wanting to get to work, but he broke a law according to our crappy system, and now he's paying for it, I just hope that some one doesn't beat him to death, or rape him, or forget that he has a family to come home to. It scares me that he's in a prison, I rather 10 times he be closer to home in a county jail or correctional facility. There's too much that goes on, and so many people with bigger crimes.

the deputies are not doctors, they cannot determine if someone is dead...Prison health services has limited doctors to attend to 4000 inmates...they do the best that they can....it is normal for anyone to think that negatively towards SRJ, it is a negative place...however, if you do not have proof of such allegations, solid proof, do not accuse our law enforcers of this...they risk their lives for you, your mom, your dad, your KIDS!!! now thats solid proof...just my 2 cents, dont take it personal...and i am deeply sorry for your loss.
