It's comical to envision hoards of young mothers, having needlessly slathered their precious little infants with this useless junk, recoiling in horror. This has just got to result in a congressional investigation.

Just another ploy to scare parents...when they don't even have the total facts of investigating all areas of possibilities...

Oh, were all sooooo concerned about thimerasol. But we're all also such hyperconsuming suckers for a good sales pitch, blowing money on useless junk without question. Then when it doesn't turn out well (and there's no proof that this stuff is actually harmful), we're all looking for someone to blame. I'm just saying that one of the places we should be looking is in the mirror.

FDA is aware of this issue but nothing is being done. On another note formaldahyde is also in baby shampoo but uses one of its 30 names so the consumer doesn't see it. Of 2,983 chemicals analyzed that are found in personal care products:
884 are toxic
146 can cause tumors
218 can cause reproductive complications
778 cause acute toxicity
314 can cause biological mutations
376 can cause skin and eye irritations

I'm more concerned about high levels of carcinogenic and poisonous chemicals in toxic tobacco smoke. Smoking must be banned everywhere, indoors and out.

"Four times the level of phthalates in their urine" Is this bad? What did the others use instead?

Exactly, what do you find as a healthy shampoo for anybody, babies or not? Please share if you know some. Thanks.

Ps. How about just pure soap for hair as well?

IF all they did is measure phlalates in these kids they went against basic scientific methods. There was no control group, no measured usage, no control over the environment the kids were in, no test of the products for levels of the chemicals in question.

Shoddy

Well, it looks like a pilot study. Sort of hop and skip. It could also be called preliminary depending on what comes next.

Now that they have obtained some data, they can design a research program and acquire funding for an extensive study. Perfectly common.

I am glad to read about it at this stage. It gives us an early warning instead waiting unknown years for the final data, if they would ever come. Commercial interests, etc might kill the budding research without further work.

Hope they continue.
