Its time to move into the 21th century. Now is the time to act and not wait for a crisis. The county is making an extra $100,000 a month housing
outside inmates. Its time to take cres of the county voters. |

A lesson on housing inmates:
Fist off, Congrats to Essex County for building a jail with little or no cost to the taxpayers. Second, This is why the jail houses outside inmates. It houses outside inmates so the financial burden of the project did not fall on taxpayer's shoulders. Thank You Essex County and the Essex County Board of Supervisors for a job well done! |

The topic is new electronic voting machines.
Not inmates. Its time to take care of the voters of Essex County. |

This is the original posting. This does mention outside inmates, unless my eyes deceive me. I agree that it is time to advance technological with the voting machinces. but, housing outside inmates pays for the jail, not new voting machines. |

I care, and obviously you do as well. Or, these discussions would not be taking place.
I also respectfully disagree, I DO think that the taxpayers of Essex County are taken care of. Are new voting machines keeping taxpayers from being taken care of? Or, are the minimal changes in Essex County's tax levy taking care of the taxpayers? |

The taxpayers are not being taken care of when the county drags its feet. The federal gov has provided money. Its time to get the new machines for the voters. Its not 1950 anymore.

So, the taxpayers are not taken care of because the county has old voting machines???
As long as minimal changes in Essex County's tax levy continue from year to year, than, who cares about old voting machines. I am sure that Essex County is not the only county in the United State still using old equipment. Voting machines? I'm glad to see people care about the real issues we are faced with in the midst of today's economy. |

There is no reason not to have the new machines period. The tax levy has nothing to do with it.
Now in the town of Chesterfield the supervivor takes $58,000.00 a year pay there is no reason for that but the tax levy pays for the foolishness or should I say CEO pay. This is a real issue which should have been put to a vote by the towns people. It needs to be addressed in todays economy and will be. |

Essex County Democratic Election Commissioner David Mace says he's going on record that a crisis will result if they don't start preparing electronic voting machines for the September primary election.
With that being said here is another county official stating that Essex county will be making alot of extra money. Taken from the Essex County Personnel Meeting 3/16/09 “MORROW: I think the Sheriff already gave us that analysis a couple of weeks ago, he put it all out on paper for us and it was very well explained that we are going to make a lot of money”. So let serve the people our voters and get the new machines and be done with it. |

Major Crisis? How will we ever know who wins without counting? How have we held countless of elections in the past without new voting machines.
Will September's primary election be any different than those in the past? It will be the end of Essex County as we know it without new voting machines. I guess, new voting machines are of great importance to simple-minded individuals. There seems to be an awful lot of talk about the Town of Chesterfield's supervisor and Essex County personnel meetings, but no mentioning of the town board meetings at the Town of Chesterfield, which happen to be held on the first Tuesday of every month. I believe it would be beneficial to you if you attended. That way, you can discuss the supervisor of that town and know more about the situation than you THINK you do. Unless, you are too intimidated, and you find it easier to address issues behind his back. Also, I am tired of the grammatical errors. It would be most helpful if someone else read your comments before they are posted. Especially, if you are the editor of one of the pages. |

I think you meant, it looks like your are or (your're) intimidated. I assure you, intimidated I am not. You aren't addressing the news and facts. You are addressing "your" perception of the news and facts. My only reason for advising you to attend a town board meeting or meeting face-to-face with local leaders, is because I think it would be just as beneficial to you as an English Composition course. The only way to provide validity is by not making mistakes and getting the facts straight. |

$58,000 per year? This hardly seems fair! Why is it that he is making more than the other supervisors in Essex County. And by more I'm meaning more than $10,000 or so more. Why is it that one supervisor should recieve so much more than the rest. I don't see why? Does anyone else? |

It was done without town voters knowing about it. No letters were sent out to town residents informing them of a 200% increase.

First, I would like to assure you that the figures are completely wrong. It is not $58,000.00 per year. The Supervisor would gladly show anyone interested, his budgeted salary located in the town budget. It wasn't a 200% increase. All salary increases of elected officials are published in the newspaper prior to a public hearing, which is open to the public, before the budget is adopted.
The supervisor's position for the Town of Chesterfield is a full-time position. Great changes have come with the full-time position. Such as, his efforts during the Ice Storm of '98, which saved the town 12.5% in expenses, because he was able to receive reimbursement for all expenses incurred. Not only was he able to obtain 87.5% from SEMO and FEMA, but also the 12.5% from a grant that Essex County received. Making the town's expenses 100% reimbursable. Also, all grants applied for through the town are done with the guidance of the Supervisor and Town Board. At this time, if you watched the Town Board meeting on the government access channel, you would see that there is a $6.5 million water project ongoing in Port Kent. This would have cost the residents there over $1200 per year for water, without receiving $4.5 million in grant funding. These actions are only the tip of the iceberg in what he has done for the Town. Thank you, Mr. Morrow, for your persistance, dedication, and attitude! Without a full-time supervisor's position, the Town of Chesterfield would suffer greatly, and be stalled in progression. |

I think we need a clarification on official misconduct.
