Dennis Hess, the former owner of Denim and Diamonds in North Kansas City, was found dead June 15 at a home in Platte City, and preliminary findings indicate suicide as the cause of death.
Although the Jackson County medical examiner cannot pronounce an official cause of death until about July 26 at the earliest, according to Jeph BurroughsScanlon, spokesman for the medical examiner, early reports indicate Hess killed himself.
Frank Hunter, spokesman for the Platte County Sherriff’s Office, said preliminary reports from the coroner point to an allegedly self-inflicted gunshot wound as Hess’ cause of death, but the investigation is on hold until a toxicology report from the medical examiner comes back and an official cause of death can be announced.
Court records list the residence where Hess was found dead as the residence of Lena Hayes-Hess, his wife, who had filed for divorce March 6. Hess’ home address in that case is listed in Lake Waukomis.
Hess, 64, was the owner of Denim and Diamonds in North Kansas City until ownership was transferred to his wife on June 27, 2008, according to the Platte County Assessor’s Office.

He wasnt a saint and he wasnt famous to anyone other than the people who hung out in his bar but ppl think it should be national news. he also had a choice to pull the trigger or not and not only did he do it, he did it with a little girl who he supposedly cared so much about right there in the house.
he had a habit of driving drunk and a list of restraining orders a mile long and not all were from lena. would everyone be worshipping him if he had killed someone while driving drunk? yeah all good men i know drive drunk and endanger other people. so he handed money out to ppl who couldnt take care of themselves. Big deal.
He sure did hand money out to people just ask Lena. She took all the money she could that wasn't hers and is still doing it. What a leach she is.

how is all these rumors going around doing any of us any good? Why dont we wait for every thing to get close out becauses no matter whether we like it or not we are not judge and jury and there are people all around us we think are good like teachers, parents, family members that are rapist, drug users, child molesters ect. So my point is its easy to think the worst of someone but no one has all the facts Dennis was not a saint none of us are. I am sadded to think that any of us feel we have the right to judge him,or any of his family including his wife they have all suffered a great
loss.
