Broward County condo wants to stop resident's use of Segway

Stanley Blumenthal should be able to ride his Segway and the condo should not try to stop it. This is much better and much safer than having senior citizens drive around in big gas guzzling cars, especially when some of them can't even see properly and are dangerous drivers. Stanley should get a good lawyer and fight this. He should also contact Segway management and see if they will help him battle his condo association. Stanley should win this if he fights it. Go Stanley, stay on your Segway.

Yeah,I agree. For this reason I bought a house instead of a condo. I'd never live in a Florida condo. From what I see, the boards are mismanaged. My experience with condo boards are that they're populated by old fat short men who have no power at their job so they join condo boards to exercise their diminshing manhood. Condo boards tend to do alot of illegal things but most residents don't have the money to contest the actions in court.

Sunrise Lakes should come with a warning sign. It looks like hell. They have empty units that won't even sell for 30-50K (Phase III) and still the condo management team there turns away applicants because they are black. They use a separate set of "criteria" they pull out of their back pocket whenever they want for any set of rules. Some of the nastiest and most prejudiced people in broward are in that management office.

The condo associations refuse to allow renters in or people under 55 unless they are relatives, and people are getting clued in real fast about this condo commandant thinking. Count the lock boxes on the doors. I don't know who they think is going to pay their monthly fees when there is no one left there.

If you are smart, stay away....it will just start to look worse & if you are an owner they will make it impossible for you to ever sell your unit unless your buyer is white and jewish.

Nasty old people. Nothing better to do than screw with your neighbor because you were elected (because no one elso would do it) to a condo commando position.

It sounds like you have had a bad experience with at least one or two condo boards and that is a shame, but please don't generalize all of them them as biased and racist. South Florida is a huge area and if you are not already aware, speaking by raw numbers, those of the Jewish faith are actually a minority so it would be an impossibility to only sell condo's to people of that faith. Ignorance is contagious, be careful before you spread it.

Did these condo commandos ban the use of electric scooters and wheelchairs for people who have trouble getting around on arthritic knees, etc.? I bet they didn't. So, what is the difference between a two wheeled Segway and these other modes of transportation? These people need to get a life.

I challenge the board to stop being so myopic and pig headed. This man obviously acts responsibly and the board is throwing around their tiny power to make his life miserable. They should back off and focus on real issues like ensureing their community members get out more, not less!

Do these old folks have nothing else to do but complain and interfere with each other? Simply another law suite that is going to fill the pockets of the lawyer and eat up the money of the residents living there. I think if the pres of that condo board had a girlfriend we would not be hearing about this nonsense.

they allow electric 3 wheel scooters in sunrise lakes as my dad has one and no one has said anything in 5 years. he drives out his door into the elevator and goes to clubhouse with it all the time. so how is the segway any different???

If he purchases a $100,000/$250,000 insurance policy on his Segway, let him ride it. Otherwise, he may not.

And to Stanley Blumenthal (funny your inititals are B.S.!), there's no jealousy here. But when you fall, I hope it's fatal because I'm tired of my tax dollars going to 83-and-other-such-year-olds for their laziness and extremely poor judgment.
