i do not think it is right to banning pitbulls, because its not the dog its the owner of the dog any dog can be aggressive if that it how they are raised. i feel you should lock the people up that is making them mean, because the pitbull has been around for a long time you should know that, they are very well behaved dogs. also(this is a fact, there are more calls and reports on mutts and other dogs than the pitbull any how, you just dont show that on t.v...do you why? cause it is not a pitbull huh? if you can ban the pitbull breed why not the other breeds...cause i love my pitbulls and if i have to i'll complain bout all these other dogs that they will have to be banned to, so there for there will be no dogs around at all. not to be mean, just saying ban the people that make the breed mean dont ban the dog...think about it if you were born and your mom/dad trained you to be mean..thats how you will be....not your fought huh? think about it.

I am so upset about this discussion that I simply do not understand the political ignorance that runs rampant in this country. BSL's do not work. all you do when you ban a breed of dog is tell the people who have abused said dog that it is ok. Why? because, much like child abuse the abuser will simply abuse again and again. take the child away, they get another one or someone else's and they abuse that one to. the cycle does not end. This is the same as pitbulls. The majority of Pitbulls do not ever have any incidents with anyone. They are loved and adored by their family and friends. Then you have the Media. Yes, I blame them. If they reported nearly as many other dog attacks as they do Pitbull or possible Pitbull attacks I am afraid that almost every breed would be on the chopping block. The facts are this, RESPONSIBLE OWNERSHIP. This type of law says that the people in charge of the city chose to listen to the gossip and take the easy way out. How about you deal with the problem. The people who do not care about these dogs. Let me give you an example. The neighbors have a Male Pitbull, He has spent his whole life on a chain. He is not nuetered and has no socialization skills. When he gets off his chain the owners who are afraid of him hit him with stick. The Dog is not mean. Yet one day he may snap, and whom shall we say gets the blame? He will. and his breed. I have called the SPCA but here where I live they cannot go into the yard to take a look at him even though we supposably have a chain law. the laws are uninforcable and the real tragedy is that this dog could have been a wonderful family member. even when he gets off, he is not mean natured. But that is not to say it couldn't happen. I own a pitbull as well and I am even wary of him. not because he is mean. because like I said, he is not but because he has not been raised properly and eventually abused animals snap. I feel sorry for him. I also want to note that I have a chihuahua and she is more dangerous then any Pitbull I have ever known, but again because of her size she is deamed as no threat, sad that there are double standards like this. I only wish that people would take the time to meet the animal they want extinct. Also, research should be done on the fact that Pitbulls have been blames for more attacks then any other breed when there was no dog to identify, yet the media grabs the name because it gets ratings. sad indeed.

If law enforcement would go after the IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS, there would be no need for breed bans, or any of the other ridiculous laws they are passing in this country. Look at the owners, not the dogs. Breed doesn't matter a bit, there have been bites and fatalities from many breeds.

This is why Americans are dumb. You won't give up your pitbulls and larger breed of dog because your selfish. Think about why this ban is being brought up. It's for your safety, im sure most pitbull owners are good, but it only takes one bad pitbull to rip your favorite body part off of your body. If we start getting rid of dogs that are big enough and strong enough to knock down 8-12 year old children and maul them to death, then you should be satisfied. All I ask is to think of the greater good. One less mauled child is worth getting rid of these vicious beast pets and your selfish right.

It makes perfectly good sense to blame the owner and not the dog. However, I have known pit bulls that turned evil when the owners were very responsible and knowlegeable about how to treat dogs. They were as baffled as anyone. I believe the dogs just snap, it's in their breed. Sad but true. Like trying to make a pet out of a wild animal.

Its always about safety, right? I call BS. I m kinda getting tired of the higher ups telling me how to live. First was seatbelts.(My children always wear them but I dont, I pay my insurance not them). Second centerville is taking away smoking rights.(Im not a smoker but if I want to smoke in my car or outside why should they beable to stop me?) Now trying to tell people what kind of dog to have. I know several little dogs that are fierce and bite but because they are little they are harmless? Thier have sharp teeth too. Dalmations, chows, and german shepards turn on people but I have never heard of banning them. I ve had 3 pit bulls over the years and i have NEVER had to put one down. We lived on a farm with SEVERAL cousins. I believe as with anything, when treated with love and respect,(people and dogs) you will get that in return.

The city of Centerville needs first to look at its self:
Why is Kris Koestner still representing the City of Centerville, after all these year things never change? Someone with his back ground, always operating on the edge of what is proper or legal; he is an embracement to our little town. Not to mention the fact that he sued the Centerville, why would he be on the City Counsil especially after suing the City?
I had great hopes when I heard there was a new Mayor, a female, why she would not become part of the problem; she would get rid of the good ole boy regime because she would be able to see though all that kind of things. I am disappointed to see things are not changing everyone is just falling into what used to be!!
I will be home again someday but in the mean time I will always check on the status-quo which is Centerville’s style…”you scratch my back I’ll scratch your”, I heard that as a child, still reigns supreme.
Member of the City Cousel why do you want to be associated with a person that brings bad news to this City??
Sincerely,
Jo Rizk
Foot note: Why is Koestner Store allow to junk up the City Square; with the junk out on the side walk, the front windows plastered with paper, Ice machines, signs?? Isn’t there a City ordinance against this mess??

To Kaleb from Lincoln NE. I am an Ohio resident who is smart enough to know that to win an argument I don't start off with stating the other side is "dumb" you offend all people right off the bat.
I am a proud owner of a Large breed dog. I am also a responsible adult who does not allow a small child alone or sometimes even near a dog of any kind and that includes our small chihuahua (they can bite and accidently scratch also). People need to start being responsible for themselves again instead of wanting the government to do the work for them.
