While this whole story is sad, maybe its time for a wake up call among parents and teachers, as a former mineral county resident, we saw the same problems in the school systems that I feel is rampant throughout our country and that is: Children who are favored in school, because of their athletic abilities or the status their parents hold in a community, have the advantage of acting however they please, There is always the "children will be children attitude. Its time for all to teach a kinder/ gentler side, that success is not always in winning and being bigger, stronger and afleuent. The attitude that a person of any age needs to "man up " and take a beating is a sad way of life.

Get a gripe Jennifer, Do you know what actually happned here. So it's o.k. to stab somebody 13 times. Maybe you need to see a shrink! This had nothing to do with somebody being favored. It has to do with the defense creating a lie and selling it to everybody. Two guys stab somebody to death at a party and thats o.k. They are not the victims here. Matt is!!!!

I think the stabbing is absolutely horrible, Mr, Joslin will have to live with the fact that he was all or a part of it. I only believe that we each are keepers of our destiny and perhaps if Mr Palagi had not have been so worried about beating someone up, the outcome would be different. There was a pattern they both displayed, Joslin being a victum of bullies and using that as a defense to stab someone, Palagi as a bully, making himself a victim. Each made terrible choices, and Palagi paying the highest price, but inside do you think Joslin will ever forget, he to will pay. What a terrible thing to happen, Small town america is not immune to violence. But as I said before, if all children were taught a kinder- more gentle behavier, leaving out the he-man attitudes, things like this could be avoided.

I personaly know Mechee, and I feel terrible about what happend. But they were just kids that were drunk and fighting. It could have happened to anyone. I just don't see why everyone has to critisize him for it. Kids kill other kids everyday. Now ask yourselves, how is this any different?

I am from the town that this story is about and I read the postings and want to cry. While it is true that kids in Superior drink all the time. I know I did when I was in high school there and that was 20+ years ago. I read that kids kill kids all the time so what is different. Well, its not okay that kids are killing each other. Its not okay that they stabbed someone 19 times. that is so far beyond self defense. There are two sides to the story and from what I hear the two boys on trial are not innocent by any means. Yes it got out of hand...but they all had weapons and all pulled them out to use. This kind of behavior must be punished and stopped!! While I am sorry that one of these boys is going to serve 17 years (much less with parole) but at least he is alive and has a chance for a life unlike the young man buried in the ground with a life ended to quickly.

It makes me sick that a couple of no good punks can go out looking for trouble, MURDER a defenseless young man and then claim it was because they were being bullied. Even if they were being bullied (which is a damn lie) they have no right to take anothers life. I knew Matt personally, he was my cousin. I adored him when he was just a mischievous little kid with big ears and a bigger smile. He was my buddy. He was my friend. He grew up into a wonderful young man with a huge heart. He kept his beautiful smile. You cannot tell me that the two greasy looking punks that went out with knives and evil intentions got what they deserved, because they didn't. The Justice system failed for Matt. It failed for all of us who loved him. It let off cold blooded murderers, because nobody stood up for decency and truth. Jennifer from WA should get the facts before she types her opinion. Joslin wasn't a victim being bullied any more than Matt was a bully playing a victim. Matt didn't have to play a victim. He was forced into being a victim because two kids killed him. In real life if you are afraid of someone you don't go looking for a fight with them, you avoid them. In real life it is a case of two kids who didn't like another kid so they took it into thier own hands and they stole his life. In real life Matt didn't have a weapon of any kind and they stabbed him THIRTEEN times. In the back. They are sick, evil cowards. Nothing more. And Ashley is right, Shyla needs to learn how to write if she is going to force her ignorant thoughts on other people.
