Pit bulls should be exterminated. They are a vicious breed.

First post is 100% correct, 2nd is ignorant of the realities of the breed. The owner of the dogs should be held liable for the cost of the animals killed and the vet bill for the injured one.....time to hit up his home-owners insurance.

where's the interview with the dog owners. knowing new mexico they already have at least two more pit bull puppies that they will raise the same way. the response for animal control in rural new mexico is next to nonexistent. Even if you do call no one comes and if they do you have to twist arms to get them to take a report.

Legalize pitbull fighting so they can all tear each other up the way they were bred to do.

The two accused dogs were great examples of loving pets. There is NO evidence that these two dogs in question were the attackers of the alpacas. There are packs of dogs that roam this area, not to mention coyotes. How DARE you all assume the owners are negligent horrible people. The dog owners story was never told, not to mention that Mr. Homer's account of the attack significantly changes with every interview. This is a case of prejudice and uneducated idiocracy.

Roland your an idiot. Many people call bad dogs PIT BULLS. So lets get our facts before you start slamming a breed. Watch the Dog Whisperer. What dog does he use when he has a problem dog he needs to school? A pure breed Pit Bull. Thats because they are a smart and stable dog.

You are the idiot that does not respect people. I am surprised your posting did not get deleted.

There is no story from the home owners because these dogs have been loose constantly, animal control has been out to their house several times and nothing has been done by the owners to keep their dogs contained in their yard!!!!! They have been warned several times the dogs will be taken if they are not kept in their yard. They are very careless owners and shouldn't own any dog, regardless of breed.

I think the animal shelters should quit adopting out any Pit Bulls. Most of them end up at the shelters because their previous owners had problems with them. Then you get irresponsible people adopt them and you have a mess.

Any dog, regardless of breed is apt to chase an animal that has a tendency to run. Homer is out a lot of money because some irresponsible dog owner doesn't want to take the time to properly confine his dogs. Other breeds of dogs have also attacked livestock.

I absolutely agree that any breed of dog is capable of this type of behavior. The bottom line is the owner should be held responsible regardless of the type of dog. I wonder if the media would have been as quick to report this incident had it indeed been any other breed of dog. The media has played a major role in bashing this breed. Unfortunately the only good press they have received was the whole thing with Michael Vick. It proved that pit bulls, even those that were raised as fighting dogs can be as loving and obedient as any other breed. I wonder if those that despise the breed have actually encountered a vicious pit bull or if it's merely hearsay. Even still do we let a few encounters with a breed label them all? I had 16 stitches in my face from a dog bite and I have yet to call beagles vicious. I guess even as a child I realized it was the situation not the dog.
