What is this, Exhibit A for the defendents in this case? Fonseca brags that he comes along in 1997, goes to work for Shingle Springs, money suddenly shows up from the midwest and wah, lah, Fonseca becomes the tribal leader, not just a tribal member. How does one become the tribal leader and have absolutely no history with the tribe? The Answer: The Pacific Regional Office of the BIA and their pattern and practices of placement of Sacramento based individuals claiming to be Miwok in yet another very small tribal government, mix in big money from the midwest and you have a brand new tribe [casino] controlled by the BIA!

Why would Fonseca and his supporters open themselves for challenge as to their legitimacy by anyone who wishes to make the challenge, including, but not limited to Caballero! Where is the community on this? Why does it not matter to anyone in the Shingle Springs community?

What happened to Jim Adams and the former SLhingle Springs tribal leaders?

My husbands family lived on the land that was taken for the freeway in the 60's. Yet, they are denied membership in the Shingle Springs tribe. The true Miwoks of El Dorado County are not recognized because of the way the BIA misled elderly and ill Miwoks many years ago.

toknndn,

You're part of that group run by Jeri Scambler, aren't you?

Take a look at the records, Miwok families assigned to the El Dorado Rancheria were from El Dorado and Nashville not Shingle Springs. Families assigned to Shingle Springs Rancheria were from Verona and Sacramento.

While anthros say Nisenan are Maidu our Miwok elders tell us they are Miwok. We are all relations.

I'am Cesar Caballero's aunt, I'm hoping this all gets settled before long. The Verona Band has taken our identity and BIA is doing nothing even-though the proof is in their offices, from years back. We exist and aren't going away unless taken by the great spirit. Money can buy anyone, especially our government. It is sad that Indian's who have gotten in with their tribe's, dis-enroll their own. Greed was never our way of life. What happened???? Your ancestors are probably stirring in their grave. Keep it up nephew.

Cesar is a lowlife that doesn't deserve your respect. He won't take care of his kids and they go hungry. He is only out for money he has no claim to.

If you want know the true heritage of the members of the Shingle Springs tribe, check the National Archives. The tribe is based from a 1916 census of Indians in the Sacramento valley. At the time, the BIA included Hawaiian immigrants in these censuses, and let them apply for Indian status even through they were not native indians from California. The people on the 1916 census were Hawaiians, not Miwok or Maidu as they claim. Some of the original members were Naturalized as US citizens.

The Hawaiians that John Sutter brought to California escaped servitude from the Gold Rush era and intermarried INTO native Americans. Those those who have Hawaiian decent still practice their ways within the tribe. Those who have had children back then by heredity are tribal members. Just as there are African American looking or darkskinned looking people married and had children within the tribe. Just as any white person who marries into a tribe, or a white person marries into a spanish family, those children carry the heritage.

This is a fantastic day for using your brain with precision and accuracy. For instance, it's great for filling in a complicated form or going through some complex paperwork because you'll find it easy to concentrate on what you're doing. It's especially good for paying attention to the sort of finicky details that you normally aren't interested in but which are right up your street.
