How can this store do well if Chase-Pitkin's did not ... I just think it's too close to the Macedon Lowe's home improvement store and The Home Depot Hardware store also in Penfield about 2-3 miles down the same road.
Hey though it would be nice to revitalize that plaza I wish fun things would be there. Does anyone remember the great TGIF show "Home Improvement"?- Great show... where would Tim "The Tool" Man Taylor (Tim Allen) go to get his nuts and bolts? Which is better True Value or ACE Hardware? |

is this person serious? "how can this store do well if chase-pitkin's did not" i mean really think about that? chase-pitkin's and true value are completely two different companies. And it doesn't matter that there are home depot or lowes near by which by the way macedon isn't that close to penfield, and its all about quality customer assistance and its also pure healthy competition. I know a small hardware store by the name of mayer paint and hardware that does very well, and most of the customers prefer mayer over home depot. and i also really don't get where this other penfield resident is getting with comparing the show home improvement.. where would time allen get his nuts and bolts? the show supplied them duh?!

Chase Pitkin was likely making money, simply not enough money for a large corporation like Wegmans. This new store is fabulous. What a concept: they label what's in each aisle, something that has not occured to Home Depot in any meaningful way. The people working there are friendly, helpful and have a clue. Something that has not occured to the people at Home Depot. Plus, the ownership is local (but benefits from the True Value franchise in terms of variety and volume of stock on hand.) This store has pretty much everything you need. Why would I go to Home Depot and be frustrated walking thru 10 aisles to find the one thing I need in their hideously unintuitive store?!?!?!

i've found employees at all the local home depots to be both friendly and knowledgeable - and i've never had trouble finding anything (lowe's is ok, but not as good as home depot)
yes, it's nice to have a smaller, local hardware store - it's nice to support the local economy through local businesses - but bottom line, they can't carry everything the big box stores carry and provide the shopping experience (large aisles, many associates, slightly lower prices, etc.) the big box stores offer (and unfortunately, that's what people want - otherwise the big stores never would have squashed the ma&pa operations to begin with) i wish the new hardware store - and all local businesses the best of luck - i'll make purchases with them when it makes sense - hopefully they'll find their niche and last a long, long time |

i have shopped at the new hardware store and it is much more than hardware. they actually have more than the big boxes in alot of categories. they have wide aisles, more associates around to help and as good if not better prices. i really think you should visit the store before assuming they are a typical hardware store. they are definitely not your grandfathers hardware store. |
