SEIU-affiliated public employee union hacks on these threads are alleging the federal investigation into widespread anabolic steroid usage amongst public employees in Pittsfield is over. Shazam, they must be right! The Berkshire Eagle and senior crime reporter Conor Berry must have had a parting of the ways because there was nothing else to report about a federal steroids probe. Now why didn't I think of that! Heck, and I thought The Eagle was part of the cover-up. How wrong I was.

As I have watched this steroid story unfold, first on the blogs starting with Topix, then Planet Valenti & The Berkshire Blog-- and finally the Berkshire Eagle crime reporter Connor Berry did a piece on the case. I felt he was fair, it could have been a bit more tweaked with information, but I simply figured there is a certain journalistic law that the Berkshire Eagle is abiding by and in all fairness they could be working with the Federal Government and abiding by their requests right now until they can gather all their facts.
To learn today,(if indeed this is true) that Connor Berry is no longer employed by the newspaper raises even more questions for us all. I feel horrible for Connor Berry no matter what the reason was for his dismissal. The bottom line is he may no longer be reporting for us with his vigorous steal pen to the limits that were set upon him in the Berkshire Eagle.
I wish Connor Berry the very best of luck---
May I please make a suggestion here; Berry/Valenti/Heller think about starting your own local newspaper company? Think about it fellows!

I totally agree with you best of luck. Those three had some magic in their back and forth. There was honesty respect and even a little fun but we read some real truth. Something we have not had in a very very long time. I too am very sorry Conor left/ fired over the SteroidsGate but we all know threre is something very bad in our PPD. Conor had much to tell. That I am sure of. They are an evil dirty sneaky bunch as with our mayor and mini mayor

Trouble with that business of The Berkshire Eagle working with the Federales, is it really in the public interest for the public's lone monopoly daily newspaper to be so cozy with government? Isn't that exactly the reason why nothing ever changes in Pittsfield city government? The Eagle for decades has worked hand-in-glove with the city government, so much so that outright fraud (water department) and now even widespread steroids usage (PPD & BCHC) gets unreported, though all these things have plainly been going on, for all practical purposes out in the open, for years, and in the case of some things, even for decades. For example, does anyone seriously doubt the veracity of Kris Knutson's revelations about sleazy goings-on at BCHC? And does anyone think that stuff only began the day Knutson first reported for work? And in another example, before it was brought to the attention of the State Inspector General, it was indded common practice for the head of Pittsfield's public works department to ignore wholesale the state's public bidding statutes applicable to the award of valuable city public works contracts. The then Commissioner of Public Works would essentially just call up a well-known local contractor and say "Hey, we got a sewer reconstruction job for you on North Street; when can you get over here to do it?" So-called 'sweetheart' contracts like these have been illegal anywhere in the state for probably 75 years -- but not in Berkshire County! And it was not as if The Berkshire Eagle, even under The Miller Family's ownership, did not know this chicanery was going on week in and week out with the bulk of all public works projects in each of Berkshire County's 33 cities and towns. So this idea that the monopoly newspaper should somehow work closely with government is not such a good idea especially because the relationship is so quickly and easily abused.

(Continued from above) So thanks, but better that the lone newspaper in town should have a strong -- even tense -- adversarial relationship with anyone, anywhere in government. Food for thought: Would Pittsfield now be a toxic waste dump if The Berkshire Eagle had a strong adversarial relationship with General Electric, say, starting in the 1940's or 1950's?

I place at least part of the blame on the Berkshire Eagle for the PCB problem. They have consistently spouted the "company" line and downplayed the severity and extent of the GE problem of toxins in our environment. I also place part of the blame for the state of our "ethically challenged" local government. If the Eagle was unbiased and relentless in ferreting out the TRUTH on a variety of topics, there would be far less corruption, ethics issues and more than likely less steroids in the PPD and BCHC.

FLASH! In RE: Conor Berry Conor Berry is now employed by The Springfield Republican! Mr. Berry reported for his first day of work yesterday, Monday April 4, at 3PM. He is NOT working at MassLive, which though affiliated with The Republican and though carrying the bulk of The Republican’s news feed, is located in a separate building. Mr. Berry has not yet been assigned a telephone extension at The Republican, but can be reached at, of course, the news desk. The Republican does cover some aspects of news relevant to Berkshire County so one big question is whether Conor Berry will be allowed to continue delving into the federal steroids probe?

And now some silly rumor of a new mayor in Pittsfield on a mission to make crime a top priority. And who does Pittsfield's rumored new mayor meet with, Michael Wynn, can you believe it? What's next on Pittsfield's rumored new mayor's bu*llsh*it list, getting to the bottom of an alleged fraud in the water dept.? Maybe the rumored new mayor can have it investigated by the PPD. Or did Michael Wynn already do that? Well maybe that junkyard mutt of crime can solve the case of the missing $9,000 from PHS, or the alleged "certain issues" theft of funds by ex-Greylock favorite Mr. Sticky Fingers. Or whether or not Meredeath Nilan was drunk the night she plowed into buzzkill Peter Moore and left him to possibly die from a broken neck, a tramatic brain injury and several other injuries. Oh, that's right, it's probably just a rumor that Pittsfield has a new mayor interested in making crime a top priority.
