According to WAMC's 990 for 2010, Chartock's compensation is $170,000, or about 3% of WAMC's annual revenue. This percentage is eminently reasonable for a nonprofit with WAMC's level of revenues. Heller may not like it, but it's quite reasonable.

NPR should be National Private Radio. So many cuts in our budget with so little minds. I sure wish I could spend tax money with little thought of the unintended consequences on others.

Solons, isn't this what being a Limousine Liberal is all about? Again, 3% of the station's annual revenue is right on par with what other nonprofits, with a similar revenue stream, pay their CEOs. Just because you espouse liberal causes doesn't mean you're obligated to subsist on Ramen Noodles. Is there a rule somewhere that says if you vote Democratic you have to tithe half of your income to the poor?

Tax payers give billions in subsidies to oil companies each year, and also to host of other entities with whom someone may disagree with philosophically. So what? The Republicans have been trying to kill PBS off for years, but can never come up with the votes. I wonder why.

Gee, would not it be just as appropriate for the free market to decide what the CEO position at WAMC is worth.
My guess is that one could fill that slot with a competent droid for about $68 Thousand annually -- and that's being on the generous side.
It's a certainty that within the Albany labor market, there are plenty of laid-off former company execs who would be quite happy to be WAMC's CEO for that amount of annual pay -- and they'd be happy to have the work! The guy has been working at and running the station for years. How does what he earns affect your daily existence? A lot of people, republicans and democrats alike, enjoy the station's programming. There's not some hue and cry for Chartock's head. Sure, he's too dyed in the wool for me, but no one forces you to listen to the station or pay attention to him.

How much of that is vacation travel by the CEO to places like New Orleans? Who cares? I get reimbursed for the travel expenses I incur for business. Moreover, those are the travel expenses for all the employees. As for the accuracy of the data, it's simply a round number. Why does what Chartock makes bother you so much? A lot of people are uncomfortable disclosing what they earn. Granted, he has to do so, but again, who cares? The station continues to raise a lot of money, so a significant number of people have concluded Chartock's doing a decent job.

Now it is shown that in fact WAMC IS WAY OVERPAYING its Limousine Liberal CEO by a factor of more than double what he should otherwise be paid.
Rationalize your way out of this one, Solons. Way overpaying? Based on what? How much revenue does he help generate for the station? He's been working there for two decades. His salary is right in line with other similarly situated nonprofits. And, there's nothing heroic about Chartock. You appear to be personally offended by his salary. It makes no sense.
