Get your facts straight!!! This is the same group that funds a group that threatened to kill the people on a show I was with in NJ. Then went down the road and put two of the elephant handlers in ICU. We did the performances while gaurded by police armed with AK-47"s. Also, the same group that took dogs from a Animal rescue shelder, killed them, then dumped them in ditches along a back road in Vig.

Well if wild animals go on a rampage and detroy or kill while out of their natural home and kept by people for their own purposes..It is because animals have feeling's of where they should really be and want to do their own thing..They have feeling's of love, anger, ect just like people do.

Scott, how many circuses have you actually attended and how many unhappy animals have you actually seen before you chose to parrot the activist views from a website? I have attended numerous circuses without observing the problems that seem to bother you.
Our children learn best from interaction from real live animals. TV and pictures just can't equal the real thing. I can't believe that a responsible parent would consider the elimination of this basic right to learn. Removing animals from circuses and zoos and even as pets in homes (as the activisits who sponsor your website advocate) is not an intelligent move.

I don't need to read a bunch of propoganda to KNOW that for these animals to "perform" they must, at some point, be beaten..
Cats and dogs are eathanized when homes can't be found for them because man-made cats and dogs are being bred in excess for the purpose of making money..and to satisfy some twisted human desire to see and cuddle with cute, furry creatures...
Once the animal is brought into some homes reality sets in, that the animal is wild, can be mean, is a drag to clean up after and feed.. then it is dropped off at the Humane Society or abandonned..
America should stop making people so desperate for money to survive that they need to breed man-made animals to pay the bills..
What are "man-made cats and dogs" and "man-made animals"? TYIA

Tappy,
Elephants go rogue in the wild all the time therefore you're comment makes no sense at all. It has nothing to do wiht them being in a zoo or circus. Studies show it is something unexplainable that just happens.
That being said, they do have feelings of love and anger and compassion...I know first hand, my father in law owned an elephant and he was my friend. How many elephants have you been around on a daily basis? That's what I thought.
Thanks Thix....knew something was strange about Katherine, thanks for the confirmation.

I am going to go to the circus with my kid. We can't wait to see the circus master beat the crap out of the elephant with a baseball bat. Maybe if we are lucky when he is through beating the elephant he will club a few masshole lunatics who are blocking the street with their ignorant anti circus signs.

One of the big drawing cards for animal activists are ¨Hollywood STARS¨ seeking to draw attention to themselves as their stardom is on the wane.
It would be wise foe activists to take a close look at the personal lives of some of these ¨STARS¨, Drugs ,perversion, exhibitionism, showing themselves nude in Playboy, do you want your kids to see that or to hear about their multiple divorces and neglected children, Do activists subliminally desire to be the same?
It will take a deep psychiatric probe to figure out what really goes on in their minds...sexually frustrated housewives who want to be Pam or Kim?
Anything to stay in the limelight ...attack people for eating meat...yes they did that to Oscar Meyers. Denigrate people for wearing leather shoes? Get a life... if you want a cause help the poor, the starving the orphans...wake up and look at yourselves. Smells like terrorism.

Knew something was strange about me? And hearing that I'm an 'ex-crack head' on SSDI confirms that?
Talk about name-calling...
I wrote:
"I think most Circus workers are attracted to this employment venue because it satisfies their unconscious need for payback,
I think a study of the childhoods of Circus Animal Handlers will show that the majority come from abusive backgrounds.."
I will change my statement to Circus animal trainers..I did not use any name calling, I only suggested that a study will prove or disprove whether or not the majority of Circus animal trainers come from abusive home environments, and if so, how badly they were abused..

Look, it's wonderful that you were had the opportunity to ride elephants when you were with the Circus..Great that you came from a loving background..
You have given no history of your life with the circus, except to say you rode an elephant , you petted it and he loved it..
Sounds like you got the job of riding the animals in a pretty costume after the tamers and trainers did the beatings to make sure the animal behaved..

Man mande dogs are created when breeders mate two animals together to create an animal who never would have been..I saw a report on certain breeds of dogs who spend their whole lives suffering silently, because they were never meant to be that small or long..

Right, elephants rampaging on humans has nothing to do with them being separated from their parents by humans, kept in cages by humans, and beaten by humans..
How much are you being paid to defend the past and present actions of Circus producers?

Why the man made dogs "suffering silently"? They should write letters to Beagle, like you! Why did the doctors let you out of mental institution?

I don't drive. I have a government assigned driver. I just sit on the back seat of limo and smoke cigar, as long as man made dogs. And I do not suffer silently - I enjoy it loudly. Why is that all nuts are liberal dermoRATS? The answer - liberalism is a mental disorder and dermoRATic party is a bunch of all kinds of screwballs.

Ms Pittsfield,
Yes I am right..elephants go rogue in or out of wild. Do the research. That's the problem with you animal rights people, you don't do the reseach. Elephants are not even kept in cages on the circus. That's how much you know.
As for being paid....I love the circus and the animals and the people, I don't need to be paid to defend them. Walk a mile in our shoes before you open your big fat mouth, why don't you. It's hard work, labor of love work against all kinds of circumstances including havind to now deal iwth ignorant people like you and Katherine.
Katherine....as far as riding elephants after they were beaten. Yeah, right. As if the only time I saw the elephants was when I got on one. I was around the show 24/7. I actually rode the elephants when the showgirls were sick. I hold a degree in journalisim and worked on the marketing end of numerous circuses. I was instrumental in the fight to keep animals in the circus in SoCal.
I have been on a show for 25 years. There...I think that gives me something to talk about. What's your experience in the circus? Thought so. If you are so sure we were all abused why don't you conduct a psyhological study of animal handlers/trainers and see what you come up with.

Somewhat more than 35 years ago, I was on a family trip to Florida. My cousins and older brother took me to see a Ringling Bros. show. We were seated just a few rows up; I had the last seat in the row, closest to one of the tent entrances. The elephants had entered with their handler and were patiently waiting their turn. I was mesmerized. One of the elephants was a baby, its trunk wrapped around the tail of the elephant in front of it. I don't know what attracted that baby elephant to me, but it unwound its trunk and took a few steps toward me. Its head was level with where I sat. I reached out and gave the elephant a nice rub between its eyes. The baby, loving the scratch, leaned in toward me, gently touching me with its trunk. The handler spotted it, and all heck broke loose. Using a stick of some type, he started to hit the elephant and yell, forcing it back to the group. I stood in my seat, yelling myself. My brother and cousins were horrified, trying to get me to sit down. We were almost ejected from the circus. That is no PETA story -- that is unembellished truth.
Years later, a small circus -- I don't know which one -- came to Pittsfield, to the Common. I went to see the elephants raise the tent. However, I was early. When I arrived, I found the elephants chained together with maybe four or five feet between them. They were standing in their own dung, heads down, with an air of resigned patience. I left, and have not returned to a circus since.
I will never pay to see, nor will I ever bring my children, to a circus. When they are adults, they can make their own decisions. But I won't be belittled for what I believe -- that animals should not be used for entertainment purposes. There are sanctuaries -- even here, in the United States -- where animals can move freely and be safe from poachers and predators. For endangered species, until they can be safe in their own habitats, that is where they belong.
You have every right to spend your money how you wish. I too have that same right.
Amen
