I've officially had it with Lifestyles fitness center. Have been a member for over 5 years and have withstood the nasty restrooms and dressing area, the machines that are outdated and don't work, the less than courteous clientele, and the very limited weekend hours, but after tonight's workout, Lifestyle has hit an all new low. There was tobacco spit all over the urinals, hardly any of the wireless tv units were working, the free weight area for filled with cavemen who liked to grunt as loud as they could, most benches were covered in sweat, half the lights weren't working, and the closer was when I went to use the leg press machine and had to remove about six 45 lb weights that someone had forgot to restack. I later finished my reps on this machine and simply left the six 45 lb weights on it like the previous person using it had done. I immediately was accosted by one of the do-nothing personal trainers to restack my weights. I explained to him that I had been restacking weights all night and I was simply leaving on the machine what was left there for me. He concluded this discussion by telling me I would have my membership terminated if I did it again. I will not go back there again and would like to know what the Wellness Center is like. I am willing to pay more for a better atmosphere, clean dressing area, and everything is in working order. Any honest opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I guess I was a little hard on Lifestyles. It was the heat of the moment sort of. I was still mad. I am going to join the Wellness Center tomorrow and I will post how it is.

I work out here daily and things are not as you say. I can believe about the tobacco on the toilet, but the dressing rooms and bathrooms are otherwise clean. They don't patrol the bathrooms 24/7, so unless somebody mentions it to the staff they aren't going to know about it until its time to clean them. And if you can't handle 6 plates on a leg press you have more problems than just the stuff you imagine about the gym

Btw. Which machines don't work? Pretty sure I've used every machine there and they are all fine

Hey wrote: Btw. Which machines don't work? Pretty sure I've used every machine there and they are all fine I will respectfully disagree with your opinion. That's great you like the place and enjoy your workouts there. In my opinion, and it is only my opinion, the restrooms are disgusting. Go walk through the hot tub area and the shower area. I have never seen those two areas clean - ever. Both times I took a shower there I got athlete's foot. Regarding having to stack and unstack weights on the leg press machine, I want my workout on that machine to be my legs, not the rest of my body having to unstack other people's weights. It is very time consuming and I only have one hour in which to workout. My problem was with the personal trainer who basically threatened to terminate my membership if I didn't restack someone else's weights. Based on that alone, I terminated my membership. Regarding which machines are broken, go to the cardio section and try out the wireless tv units. If you find more than 50% that actually work, it would be a miracle. Go to the standing calf raise machine and look at the coupler on the right side pole holding the weights. The coupler's hex bolt is broken or missing causing the bolt to simply rest on top of the weights. It also causes excessive squeaking. This has been broken for 3 years. Also go to the sitting cycle machines and try to find one that doesn't vibrate when working out on them. On these same machines, try to find one that has a calibrated computer unit. There are two leg press machines that use barbell weights. The one on the left has so much inherent friction and resistance in it, you are actually doing about 25% more weight than what you have loaded. Basic maintenance would fix this. This machine has been in this state for 3 years as well. One more example are the sit-up machines that face the back window. There are two of them. The one on the left is so rusty and corroded that if you place any amount of weight on it, you can't do any sit-ups. Are the lights still not working in the free weight area? They have been off for two weeks. Also, the water fountains all have broken or busted dispenser buttons. They have been like this for almost a year. Sometimes, the water runs all the time on them. I have many more examples but don't want to waste more space and time listing them all. But finally, when was the last time you saw them do an update to any machine? Some of these machines were built 15 years ago. What I like about the Wellness Center was the fact that most machines, but not all, are the latest and greatest.

Look at who owns those places. It won't get any better. How about you just go outside and get some normal exercise instead. People look weird when they have gym muscles and tanning bed tans. Just go out in the sun and get some real exercise, for the love of shit. You'll look better, feel better, and you'll save a ton of money. Why is that so hard to comprehend?

Bunch of steroid users acting like they know what's up. When they get off at the end of the day, they snort coke and laze around. Just get out, eat less and burn calories. Best bet around. I know it is hard to get started, but at least you call the shots and it is free. Good luck, keep it in mind.
