We are going to be moving to Piney Flats in January, our children will be going to Mary Hughes School we were told by some friends that paddling is allowed there as a form of discipline I thought that had been outlawed long ago.Does anyone know if this is true or not.

My child has been attending there for 2 years and I have never heard of this. Mary Hughes is the best school around this area. My child loves it there and both the principal and vice principal are wonderful as well as the staff and teachers.

I went to Mary Hughes from k-8 grades. My grandmother, my mother, and her sisters went there as well. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. We have all went to that school. It was a wonderful experience. Great teachers and a great since of pride in community. I am friends of both Hank and Brian. They are very fair. This is a great school and should stay that way!!

Its true about paddling but you can opt out with a form stating you will not allow this barbaric form of displine. Watch out for disorganize teachers and lack of disclpline for the teachers. They are on there own with what goes on in the class room. Noone is minding the store. Maybe they should be the ones paddled.

Why should you be so concerned about paddling in school if your child is well behaved? The teachers and principals are interested in making good upstanding citizens out of the students there. If they should be diciplined, it is probably the only dicipline they have ever received. School is only a partner with the parents.

What is wrong with you people!! You are more concerned about PADDLING than the quality of education you receive??? you must be kidding? You better stay in whatever location you are in now, be/c geez.. if paddling is the biggest issue you have... PS, M Hughes has the WORST reputation for education. Of course, its sullivan county, your expectations cant be too high to begin with

Some people are very concerned. They dont think that there prescoius darlings should be spanked by a stranger. Even though the teacher spends 5 or 6 hours a day with them. And goodness we dont want a 13 year old girls bending over in front of a man to have her butt hit - how degrading for her

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Libra

An emotional situation is as clear as mud today. You aren't sure about your feelings for a certain someone, nor are you convinced that you know what they're playing at. They may be saying one thing and doing another, and you might even suspect that they're playing games with you or trying to get what they can out of the relationship. Or maybe you're imagining the whole thing? Admit it - at this stage you simply don't know.
