Let me see if I have my Bay City Times articles correct.
Our elected Bay County commissioners are part time but receive a 40+ dollars per-diem pay per commission and commission subcommittee meeting, not including a mileage allowance. This breaks down to over $400 dollars per hour for their two to five minute meetings. Don’t lay the available 24/7 on me now.
Then we read that with pension and insurance premiums to retired commissioners, the county is taking a hit for over $51,000 a year for now. After retirement, some commissioners are now going to be into the county budget for over $15,000 a year more. And they are forced to accept this from years ago. All this for “working” 1.1 hours a month. Sure wish I had these benefits after working a 40 to 50 hour work week for over 40 years. Too bad if you’re a part time county employee that works for his/her pay.
Now we read that the commission wants county staff to explore which jobs could be eliminated/consolidated in the future through “personnel audits”. Do you think that maybe the commissioners could look inside their own house and come up with ideas and ways to cut costs of their own. I sure know of a couple ways.

I have no problem paying an elected for their time while in office. However,in the world the rest of us live and die in, we don't get money once our "part-time" jobs end. I think its time to get the laws changed so public servants are motivated by civic pride and a willingness to help their communities and not the desire to set themselves up with a slush fund for life! They're ripping the pockets off the taxpayers. Where's the justice and oversight?

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Virgo

You aren't fooling anyone - it's easy for everyone else to see that inexperienced people are unaware of their obligations, Virgo. You're grumpy about starting a familiar process from the beginning again, but don't let that get in the way of getting on with it. Sour grapes have no place in your daily dealings. Although you may 'own' a project, it's ultimately in the hands of someone else. Deal with it and then move on.
