You are all thinking

Breast = sexual organ.

That's just not how breastfeeding moms see it.

It's a little weird to me that the child is 5 and still wants too. Sounds a little co-dependent.

I would say the same thing about a 5 year old sleeping in mom and dad's bed.

But its' not child abuse. Careful ontop of that HIGH HORSE.

At 5 years old your child is going to have memories of nursing, and is this something you really want to do to your child. Most, and I am guessing your child will agree at around age 14, would believe that this is a memory not welcomed. I do not think this is a joke, as I know there are several extreme references that support what you are doing, but like I said these are the extreme. At 5 years old, there is little to no advantages to your child breastfeeding; so I have to ask myself, are you nursing for the wellbeing of your child, or are you nursing for your attachment and other needs? If I tried, I could probably find support to claim that the suckling to this age is likely to affect various aspects with oral development, and as a professional I am 100% certain this will affect the psychological development of your child. I am not saying that these affects will absolutely be adverse; although I am most certain that they will be, but nursing to this late of age will certainly play a larger role in their adolescent development. I would highly recommend that you begin an aggressive plan towards weaning.

Granted this activity is not child abuse, at least in the legal sense, but many years ago I encountered a similar situation in which the mother continued to nurse her five year old son, and all I can say is if this behavior isn't discontinued and if this behavior becomes public, then the child's life will be made pure hell by his friends. Children can be cruel so be prepared for your child to be miserable. This is exactly what happened to the mother and child I once knew and both mother and child had to seek professional help for the resulting trauma, not only to cope with children's taunts, the abrupt change between mother and child, but also for the mother's overwhelming guilt and embarrassment for allowing this to happen. My advice...stop with the breast feeding. To do so will save you a lot of money, and your child immeasurable grief. Best of luck to you.

Are you serious? Carrying a blanket and taking a pacifier until their 5, is a hell of a lot different then still being attached to the tit. Yes, it is a beautiful thing and it is the best defense mechanism for the baby to build a strong immune system and fight off foreign antibodies and viruses. They also say that by breastfeeding your baby, they are more likely to do well in school. They're many benefits, but breastfeeding is just meant to be until the baby turns 1 year old. Just like babies that are on formula; at the age of 1 they are taken off the formula and given whole cow's milk. I don't think bond or attachment has anything to do with whoever is still breastfeeding a child who is 5. I think it is absolutely disgusting and to some degree.....child abuse. A child will have memories of that at the age of 5 and I most certainly do believe that it would be extremely traumatizing. Especially when learning about life in the real world and how it is not normal to be breastfed while 5 years old. The mother could be an incest, pedophile. I am not saying that for sure, but if the shoe fits.........

You are nuts, or you would't have to ask such a dumb question.
Quit molesting your child.

What's the differance of a child breasyfeeding at age 5, and still sucking a bottle at age 5. Sounds to me like, the childs not ready to let go, but theres a time to take it. Mom of breast feeding child, brake this habbit now. Before you end up wishing you had yrs ago, it is not healthy for you or for your child.
