deal saves 1,207 acres
To David Strawn, it is sacred land. Now it will remain that way. This month, officials approved a deal to preserve property in northwest Volusia that Strawn and his family has owned for more than a century.

What would Northey know of beauty? She must never look into a mirror. Reminds me of a Halloween witch.

Glad my tax dollars can go to benefit wealthy land owners. I like to see properties sold at top dollar while the market is in the dumps and government agencies are cutting back.

Strawn was a better Deal than Stanaki in Port Ornage. It is good to see the County and District making a sensible purchase for a change. A few months ago Volusia FOrever paid 1.68 million for the Ford Parcles 76 acres,(appraised at 76,500 in 2005 by Tax appraiser). In November Port Orange and Volusia Forever paid 5.6 million for 225 acres ( appraised at 3.1 million by County hired experts). Why is it always so much cheaper when the State agencies ( SJWMD, DCA ) are involved? Wonder if there is any kickbacks locally on the other deals?

Just what was the threat that the property was saved from at a Price of 5 million dollars. Termites, Ants Mosquitos, Birds, Deer, Keg Parties? This practice of thinking the only way to preserve land is to buy it is ridiculous. What development entitlements did the State or County give on this property that forced us to buy it to protect it from development. Can I graze Cows on the Land since I am a Volusia Taxpayer?
