So I'm truly starting to question what the point of being a good, law abiding citizen is when we live in a city where if you make any attempt whatsoever to report suspicious activity or any kind of incident, you immediately become subject to questioning that is completely and utterly rude, offensive and out of line...

Case in point - I'm driving home from the gym this evening and an SUV/Small Truck in front of me slams on the breaks and I almost rear-end him because he goes from 50mph to 0mph in a couple of seconds. He takes off EXTREMELY FAST and I then see that he has struck and wounded an animal. I can clearly see that the animal is very much still alive but not in any condition to be left lying on the road and not knowing whether or not it was wild/feral, I rush home and contact the Pickerington Police who then transfer me to some number without saying who I am being transferred to. A woman picks up and when I explain the situation (and that it may have been someone's pet and I am concerned for the animal's well being and that of the possible pet owner) and she makes me feel like a criminal! She demands that I tell her my name, my address, my phone number and won't tell me why she needs this information to simply send someone to go check out the scene of the accident. Then, on top of this, she asks me many times if I "am sure it wasn't me who hit the animal"... YES OF COURSE I AM SURE IT WASN'T ME!!! IF I HAD HIT THE ANIMAL I WOULDN'T BE CALLING YOU!!! So, after I "convince" her that I didn't hit the animal and that I am just trying to be a good citizen, she asks, "Do you really want me to send someone out to check this out? It could be a waste of our time so it's up to you". I respond, "No, it's not up to me, it's up to you. I don't know who you are or what department you work for but if the animal is alive and is a pet, the owner and the animal both deserve a chance at saving it's life." So, she simply says, "OK.", in a very annoyed voice and hangs up the phone.

Regardless, I truly wish we had paid and elected officials who not only appreciated, but RESPECTED those of us who actually are decent and caring enough to want to protect the city we live in, the property in that city, and most importantly the lives of the animals and people in the city.

So much for doing good deeds.... I've lived here my entire life and that will be the last time I go out of my way to try to help out the police in this town because obviously we live in a town where you can get away with hitting animals and taking off down the road but you can't be treated with respect when you see something like this happen and make an attempt to report it.

If any Pickerington City officials see this, please make an effort to try and show respect to those individuals left out there who are still trying to help you however and whenever they can because most of us show you a great deal of respect and it's not too much to ask for the same respect back when we are trying to HELP YOU.
