Well, it's been over a year now since we tried to get the Van Bedaf mega-dairy to choose a location farther away from our town of Carrington. To make it short: ND State approved their application, the dairy has been built, they keep trucking in more and more cows, and the lagoon already stinks. One fifth-generation family moved away because they were worried about the health of their small child living next to all the potential chemical pollution. The $20/hr jobs they promised never came to fruition. Their employees are mostly from Mexico and Peru and are paid a VERY minimum wage. Our community has to pay for the wear and tear of their milk and cattle trucks on our roads. And, we very seldom see anyone from the dairy in town. Where is the economic growth that our commissioners and mayor promised the Carrington community? Other than feathering the pockets of the state, community leaders, and property owners who pushed it through, how has the Van Bedaf dairy benefitted Carrington's citizens? Perhaps the commenter from New Rockford can elaborate on his view of the benefits...
