I believe Petal school district is denying parents the right to monitor the safety and whereabouts of their children! Require parents to pick up the cell phone after school if it gets taken up by administrators, and allow the individual teachers to determine if the cell phone was an actual distraction or not in the classroom! Don't punish a family of their basic communication with their child! It's the 21st century.....come on!!

The schools are way too harsh on the whole cell phone thing. I agree, there needs to be a modern alternative to the whole 30 days confiscation thing! This is a violation of rights. If a cell phone is taken up the first time, then harsher punishment could be placed, but the way it is now is a severe hardship on families, especially ones who only use cell phones with no more land phone at home.

I think they should allow us to have phones at school because think of if somethin happen to you after school or you walked home and all you had was a cellphone you would need it but if you get it taken up then I know if I was a parent I would totally be majorly mad because I need whoever to have a phone to make sure they are okay

Parents should be doing their own jobs and taking the phones away before the kids go to school. I am right now having a problem with my young employees thinking they have a right to have cell phones on at work. I am sure this comes from the schools and parents tolerating it. We seem to be producing generations of kids who feel their rights are more important than holding a job.

I'm a parent and I understand why parents would be upset for their child's phone being taken up in the case of an emergency. But let's be real...99% of the time, the students aren't using the phones for emergencies. They're being used for gossip and chatting with their bff, finding out where the party is this weekend, and who's dating who. I think that phones COULD be allowed in the school but not allowed to be used during school hours. If there's an emergency then the parent could contact the school and the school would relay the message. If the child has an emergency during school hours, they tell teacher and teacher sends child to office to call home. Its really not necessary for a student to use the phone during school hours bc the school has phones so......

A cell phone is NOT a right! It is a privilege! One that children, which they are, do not need to have at school. If there is an emergency, then the school will call. The problem is we have a generation of parents who are too apathetic in their parenting and don't want to tell their kids no! Here's an idea- when the school makes a rule, parents, back it, even if you don't agree! You'll teach your kids an amazing character lesson, that sometimes you'll have to conform to a rule you don't agree with or get fired. Your sweet little baby will survive without texting or calling you for 8 hours, and if you were being honest, you're not the person their calling, it's their friends. They are texting or facebooking how cute so and so is instead of learning, and that's why the school needs the rule. Please reply and tell me how "good" your kid is, and how he isn't the one doing it, because that will give me the opportunity to chant, "Liar, liar, pants on fire!"

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Virgo

You have a very high opinion of a certain person today, believing that they can do no wrong. But how realistic are you being? It looks as though you're viewing the world through rose-colored glasses, which is fine if it's only a temporary state but quite another matter if you're deliberately ignoring problems and pretending that they don't exist.
