We seem to be seeing more of this... relatives taking advantage of the elderly and their money.

Taking what money. They were entitled to that money just as the mother was. Where does it say she is uspposed to pay for her care? Why should she when no one else pays for anything in this country?

Might well be caused by people feeling so taxed-to-death they're beginning to feel entitled to get money any way they can and it's going to get worse. In their eyes I'm sure it was a case of taking advantage of the government. I doubt they considered it taking advantage of the elderly relative at all. You can bet the government took advantage of this woman's estate via estate taxes. Government at it's best stealing money that has already been taxed by them. You can't even have what is left over after being taxed-to-death.

I am sure that the woman paid taxes for over 3/4 of her life. I also believe that the death-tax is another scam of the government to take more than they deserve.....1/4 death tax. The family probably wanted to get their inheritence before the government took it all.

Throw the book at them. What? They're white? Oh, never mind.

As for the so-called "death tax": The inheritance tax for 2009 is ZERO, and as of 2010 the first $1 million of an inheritance is not taxed.

Is that so, where do I find that information?

If someone is on Medical Assistance - they have no estate - it has all been spent already on her care, which is the only way to qualify for Medical Assistance.

Sorry, I misquoted the current law. For 2009, the first $3,500,000 is exempt from federal inheritence tax. For 2010, the federal inheritence tax is zero. For 2011 and beyond, the first $1,000,000 is exempt from federal inheritence taxes.

Yes, but are you sure this information wasn't withheld?

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Taurus

If your goals are fairly modest in the short term, they are achievable and you're likely to get some praise for achievements along the way. If you aim too high too quickly, others might not take you seriously or think you're being uppity and you could come unstuck. It's all a question of attitude and approach. There are contradictory influences over the next ten days but there could also be good luck coming your way.
