Hey media types... what is the insane reason for this title?

Shall we put it all into perspective?

-More than 910,000 people in America still die of heart disease, annually. AHA

-About 500,000 people died of cancer, in America, each year. CDC

-Approximately 43,000 people, in America, die each year from vehicle related traffic accidents. NHTSA

-About 36,000 people, in America, die from flu related complications each year. CDC

-17,000, or so, poor souls are victims of homicide, in America, annually. FBI

I still remain unconvinced that the swine flu is any worse than the other flus that we get every year. 36,000 ppl die each year from regular flu. I just find it interesting that the media is trying to cause a medical panic at the same time that the government is trying to pass a radical change to the health insurance system.

This flu is worse because the one's that are most at risk are young children and adults. And if your young child sat across from a confirmed case of H!N1 I think you would feel differently. There should not be panic but parents should be very vigilint with their children

Hopefully it'll wipe out all the humans by 2012. And then mother nature can finally be at peace and rejoice.

This H1N1 virus has already claimed, at last count, 86 kids. A normal seasonal flu season which runs Nov - April/May kills somewhere between 40 to 90 kids on average. Two-third of the children who have died from the H1N1 virus had either previous respiratory or immune system problems. BUT ONE-THIRD DIDN'T. In the last week more than 19 kids have died from H1N1. If someone is more worried about being labeled a "panicked or paranoid parent" than protecting their children properly, that would be just irresponsible of them. And if this virus gets any more virulent, by the time the immunization is available to the majority of our children, it may not even be effective. You can find a lot of info on CDC website and also wikipedia about whay this is more dangerous than you might think.

I would not want the entire human race being wiped out but, I would love to go back to the ways of the Native Americans but without war. They did not ruin Mother Nature. They did not ruin the land and the sky. They did not kill for game. Clean, clear streams. Un molested land. Now it is all ugly pavement. Man kills wildlife for pure joy of the "sport". If man was not at the top of the food chain we would all be hiding during people season. Think about it.

Didn't all societies kinda have to live off the land back when?

That's a very poor argument. I have two young children. I do care about their health and would like them to get the flu vaccine. But that is a far cry from pre-emptively declaring a federal state of emergency. It's also a great political game - by declaring an emergency Obama gets to claim credit if the mass deaths the media keeps hyping does not occur. I figure it wont occur anyway.

Remember, this is the president that still claims to have "saved" millions of jobs even while unemployment figures keep rising.

So he will "save" hundreds of thousands of lives from the swine flu the same way.

This is about the president, it is about me being a concerned and vigilant parent who puts my children's best interest in front of all else, so let's not turn this into a political argument. For once just focus on the concerned families with children. The political turn that is being tried is just plain old and it is boring. Same rhetoric from the same people, so boring. Go to another thread to actually cares about your political opinions.

The Swine Flu has been hyped by the media. Tens of thousands of people die every single year of the flu.

This year will be no different than past years.

Look up the flu pandemic of 1957 and look for similarities/differences. It is a good study.
