Any oldtime residents have stories relating to the childrens home on south st. that was named St. Josephs Home and is now a housing development? I was a resident in the 60's and would like to hear about your recollections of us and the effect it played in Peekskill's early history.

I remember well St. Josephs Home during the 1940's. I befriended several of the boys. Particularly I would like to know if Frank Haber is still above ground. He graduated in 1940 in my class. At that time some boys were allowed out at night, providing they logged in a person or home that they were going to visit. I well remember John Maloy who coached their basketball team which we played against several times. Man, did he give those kids what for if they lost. The gym was very small and low ceiling as I remember it which made it touch for outsiders to adapt to it.By the way anyone from Peekskill should visit the Peekskill High School Alumni home page at http://www.peekskillhighalumni.net

1 peekskill was a nice little town. It's a shame they had to sell most of the property. I remember the big clock the most. On a clear you could see the Bear mountain bridge. The view of the mountains across the river were priceless. There must of been hundreds of ships from the war just parked in the river. |

My great aunt lived at St. Josephs Home from the 1880s until her death in the 1930s. She was an orphan, then stayed on as seamstress. My mom would love to know more about her, and to learn where she is buried. Name: Antoinette Berry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

My dad told me stories of his time at St. Joseph's. He and his brothers and sisters were there sometime in the late 40s early 50s. Was anyone there around the same time who remembers the O'Brien's?
