Full story: Kansas City Star

When a grade-school boy says he's going to have his friend kill some other students, should school officials automatically consider the words a credible threat? Or do they leave room for playground ...

WE are just moving here and our children will be attending Ray-Pec schools. Where we came from, this would not have been tolerated, action taken within 24hours, parents sent a notice of what took place and the student not allowed back to school until discipline had been decided on and when it comes to a threat of violence or death, it needs to be certain that it will not be tolerated. Look at V-Tech...Age doesnt matter, children, teens and adults need to realize that violence is real and is happening and verbal threats can not be tolerated.

Agreed. The principle needs to be fired for allowing the student to return. Columbine and PA was not that long ago and Va Tech just happened. One child vs 300-400 lives is a bad exchange. If my child is threatened I will get a restraining order and a great attorney. Will be contacting the schools next week.

that is crazy what kids you should let them see the consuler and not no dispened because that is not hadleing the promblem that is just saying what they did was wrong which it really is but they should get help for the promblem first then if it happenes agian they should get way more help and they should get dispened for a day or two not a whole week

That is RayPec for ya. I have lived here for 7 years and the RayPec School District is only good for one thing...football. That is all they care about and the larger issues that need to be dealt with never are or linger out there for so long that they are unable or refuse to make safe decisions for our children. If you are thinking about moving here, find an alternate school.

I have lived in Raymore for four years. It is the worst school district anywhere. So much more goes on behind closed doors than parents think. A nine year old boy threatened to stab another boy. Do you think they did anything? NO WAY!!! The super has one thing on his mind and that is money. Do not send your kids there, love them enough to keep them in a safe enviroment. Trust me I know.

I suppose every school district has flaws and critics. I wish our schools had the test scores, facilities, recognition, AND the football success of the RayPec schools! Sounds to me that rph and plat have some "axes to grind."

you personally sound like it is a jealous thing over football no the real issues. There are two sided to every story and this need not be blown out of proportion. Yes, disciplin but lets look at the whole picture not just part of it.

My kids went to raypec years ago and I have to say that they are a great school. Every school has there problems. Maybe if the parents would get involved with there children things like this wouldn't happen. Some of the blame needs to go on the parents for the way there children act.
Schools are only aloud to do so much.
All schools need to disciplin but the parents are the ones who don't follow through or they react to the actions that were taken. Is there a happy medium.

I do not beleive Ray-Pec has done anything, as far as how the school is grown. With growth comes all sorts of kids and more problems. Everybody thinks that Ray-Pec is a great school. When I went to Ray-Pec 14 years ago. The popular kids would get away with cheating, and teachers would look the other way. Alot of the times it depends who you hang with, how you are looked at.

What you said about the raymore school district is totally false. I am a 13 year old and go to raypec middle school. I am in 8th grade now and i have been going here since 3rd. I have never seen any act of violence in students. Sure we have had some multiple out breaks of students but that is students who come from other schools most of the time or are just jokes or wase to get out of school early. THe problem with the little kids lies within the parents and how they treat or what they let them whatch. The school district is very good and has one of the best grades in all of missiouri not to minchin our football team which is int the only good thing about raypec we have basketball, volleyball, theatre, and wrestling. Our princepals are some of the best they really care about our saftey and our over all well being. Ive gotten to know all the princepals and teachers and they are loving people but every school has a problem child. The only reason Raypec is having rumurs like this spread is because if a fantastic shool has problems than sombody well want to say there going bad and are whatche very closly. Over all if you do care for your childs education and saftey send them to raypec and youll love the outcome.

Jacob is absolutely right. Ray-pec is a great district with great schools and teachers. I happen to be a classmate of his. when the "hit list" was discovered at RPMS, the school was sent in to an immediate yellow alert, a semi-lock down and the students names on the list were sent straight to the office for the rest of the time we were in a lock down. We had multiple assemblies dealing with the issue and the principles and teachers dealt with the situation professionally and did what was best for the students. My mother works for the district and i see almost all the types of parnets there are. There are the kind that hang on every word that their kid says. Then, there are the kinds that actually listen to other people and get the facts down. Most parents blow things way out of proportion, come storming into my mom's office yelling their heads and just making the facualty miserable! Its not their fault one of the trouble-children students decided to freak the school out and make threats to others! Every single teacher, principle, and faculty cares about the people and students in the school and took IMMEDIATE action, for those who think they "let it go" There is only so much the staff can do to solve the problem and keep us in class. You think you can do a better job? TRY IT! you probably wouldn't last a week with the insane parents and responsibility put on your shoulders. Ray-Pec is growing rapidly, we are having to build more and more schools. Its a very un-fair ratio, 1 teacher for 50 kids. A LITTLE OVER welming i would think? I have person relations with most of the teachers and faculty that work in the district and they love what they do. They are ALL good people who handle everything very well. Every SINLGE problem that rolls into our ballpark is dealt with! Our district is one of the highest in sports, academics, and theatre! And dogging on the problem even after its fixed is helping NO ONE! You got beef with the district? HELP IT! not dog on it! Ray-Pec has been around for decades! And we plan to have a Ray-Pec district till the SUN DON'T SHINE! WHORAH TO THE BLACK, WHITE, AND GOOOOOOOOLD!

They are worried about a violence policy, but what about hiring a girls BB coach that has been let go from two others schools because of inappropriate conduct and contact with female students? What a shame that the school board and Principle knew that he was asked to resign from Carrollton and Chillicothe and they still took on the predator to watch over their girls. Parents beware he likes to prime them so that when they are the age of legal consent in the state of Missouri he will spring into action. It's a shame the prior schools didn't fire him. He was also charged with domestic assault. Nice catch you got there.

Ok, first of all. You all dont know anything. Ray-Pec is an amazing school!
Yeah. The principle makes mistakes. SO WHAT! Our education is perfect. Plus its not the whole school does not act like this! Yes, I do understand what happen. I think it should be a threat. But Ray-Pec does do something about it! Stop saying they dont because they sure do!

JACOB IS RIGHT! Yes, I do go to Ray-Pec Middle School.I am a seventh grader. I see kids come from other cities and they try to make our school look horrible. Also blame the parents. These kids just want attention and at home they might abuse them or somewhat. Raymore Peculiar schools are amazing!

People who think Raypec is a bad school..

You really really don't know how lucky you actually are because Raypec is not a bad school at all.
