Wow, some stellar names, and some scary names. Hopefully, the best candidate for the job will actually get the job this time.

Anyone but Putzulu...He has always been two faced and has no class and is very much a back stabber. He hates volunteers and despises public support. The irony is public support solves crimes.

I personally know Randy Macadangdang from our college days. He will the best chief as a person and as an administrator. Good luck to him.

Let's get the Kauai Chief. They are incredibly corrupt over there. He could bring that over here. We'd never know the difference. A woman would be a good change, but she'd never be able to lead the mokes in HPD. They'd massacre a woman chief. Doesn't really matter who is chosen. It will be the same old, same old, just like the legislature.

Chief Perry is an excellent chief and a real benefit to the people of Kauai. I wish him the best, but also hope that he stays on Kauai. He is a good and honorable man.

Kendro is a good choice. I'm retire from HPD and know that in a tough organization a person like Kendro would be a good fit. Sometimes the chief has to be a d**k, but thats the job. All you can ask for is fairness. It seems that todays officers are more fat, lazy, and condesenting. Hardly anyone smiles nowadays. Auwe.

As a retired HPD officer. All of the candidates who are applying for the chief of police position are all well qualified and have a lot of expertise and knowledge to do the job and do a job well. between the ranks and file and the police union, it is important to have a leader who can address the concerns of all their employees and the community. The city & county of Honolulu have many issues and it take a good leadership to inspire and motivate the officers who are on the front line to respect and support his employees. This is not based on popularity vote. Good luck to the winner, may the best person fit the profile of the newest 'top dog'.

DeCaires once told a crime stopper caller that another person had already called in with the same information, knowing that the second caller would then know who the first caller was. Whereupon the second caller proceeded to take action against the first caller for having betrayed the confidence of the second caller. Long story, but evidence that DesCaires is at best naive and at worst just stupid.

those who don't want to be named should be automatically disqualified...the #1 position is a high profile public position...those who wish to remain anonymous are already showing secrecy early on and if they become HPD chief, he/she may continue that kind of secrecy...

No hiding of names. If you want to be Chief of Police then tell us who you are.Let the tax payer know who the people are and I hope the next Chief comes from the ranks of the HPD.

Sounds like Perry wants two jobs. He should stay on Kauai and finish the job. Of course now, his quick turnaround from his "dream job" is leaving his "home island" feeling like just a steppingstone. Don't need this kind of leadership at HPD.

Perry has to pay the Price, and leave Kauai, his home island. Perry left his job cuz the Price was right.

GO Kendro

Major Kendro isnt just a good cop - he's a GREAT cop! He has served the community effectively and efficiently. He is a role model police officer who works his butt off, raising the bar for what all of our police officers can achieve. I believe that Kurt Kendro's time to lead this department has arrived.
