The Walton County Democratic Party, with support from the Young Democrats of Walton County, is sponsoring a music festival “Big Blue Bash” on August 2nd, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Two bands, with regional and national contracts, will appear: Paradise Lost, a Crestview-based group, and My Farewell, a popular Pensacola band.
The event will take place at the Farm of Ray and Sandra Padgett, north of DeFuniak Springs on Hwy 185.* Directional signs will be up on the morning of the festival.
In addition to the music, fans will be able to bid for some great celebrity autographed memorabilia, donated especially for the Big Blue Bash. Onsite food and drinks will be available. Campaign speeches will be sprinkled throughout the program, and attendees who have not registered to vote will be able to do so – whichever party they choose to register with.
Currently, almost 5200 people between the ages of 18-30 are registered voters in Walton County, including 1350 Democrats, 1212 Independent/NPA, and 2600 Republicans. Many in that demographic group are not registered. That group can have a tremendous impact on the outcome of the November elections – if they turn out to vote.
“We know from watching the campaigns this year that young voters can and will get involved in the political process – given the right motivation,” says Cindy Jeselnik, who along with County Chair Graham Campbell-Work, is heading up the event.“Walton County young people are watching this year’s campaign activity with a great deal of interest. This is just a way for them to come together for a common purpose – and have a lot of fun at the same time.”
