On august 1st at 10:02 pm I was outside working on a car when I heard several gun shots(around 8 automatic gunshots) and the sounds of a car speeding away spinning its tires; I IMMEDIATELY call 911 emergency and spoke to the lady operator and told her I heard several gun shots she informed me that police would be there in minutes, I waited outside to be as much help as I could be. Well 10 minutes 20, 30, 45 MINUTES went by and nothing I hopped in my vehicle maybe thinking that officers responded to the area I told them I heard the gunshots( by Karnes aquatic swimming pool) nothing nothing nothing I drove around looking for an officer thinking they could ease my anxiety over the situation I found none in the normal spots they park. On my way home I call the non emergency police line (3931) and was answered by the same operator and told her who I was and was greeted with attitude I asked her if someone was still coming out she said no they(officers) rode around and didn't see anyone shooting at the moment so nothing was going to be done unless I "Knew who was doing the shooting" I told her immediately that I heard gunshots what more did I have to say to get some urgency I told her I heard gunshots and someone burning out speeding away, well we will have an officer to your house shortly I let her know my disappointment that gun shots are gunshots what more does someone have to say. The hour comes around and at 11:03pm and an officer finally shows up, Greets me and asks me If I heard gun shots I told him exactly what I heard and he had a look of disbelief that no call was made to him, he did not hear anything about it. I told him the reason I called is because no one with any good intentions would be shooting over there. The situations I could think of were that someone was shooting at someone and them driving away, someone shooting at someones house, or someone shooting in the middle of the street and driving off, neither scenario seems to have any good legal intentions.I let him know I think there is something wrong with the 911 system, and he left to go drive by to see if there was anything he could see, his efforts are almost futile since an hour had passed by already. Living here in Karnes city I think we know we will hear gunshots once in a while from hunters but none ever at 10 pm in the city and never with automatic gun fire. I guess the part of the reason I write this is that if you ever need to call 911 plead your case to the operator as they will send police to your house for loud music but gunshot no no they will just let those slide. thanks
please contact me if you need I will answer emails or phone calls I just want Karnes city to know the disappointing experience I had.
